22TCM is fun. Basically 223 short. Velocity is 2K fps out of a pistol and low recoil. You see fireballs. Good for handloaders. Reload 223 rem and if you get a split case, cut it down to 22TCM. Slightly modified casing below fixes the reliability issues and allows more projectiles. Clean and lube the chamber for reliability. Run the internals wet with oil. Good hands on review 👍 22TCM9R Improved, forming 223 cases (5.56x24mm) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4rZdKl-gqeDY7c

@@NOTTHASAME I've had the base model since it came out, it's an extremely reliable gun in both tcm and 9mm. I've shot thousands of rounds of 9mm from +P to tula steel case and it just eats it without complaint. TCM ammo has always cycled reliably, the only time it has ever had any issues was a jam or two in the first 50 rounds as it was breaking in, or the time I mixed up the 9mm and tcm springs (they are different weights)

Great information and honest assessment @ KS. I have for years been a "skeptic" about Rock Island, however about 2 years ago I purchased the Rock Island Armory (M1911 A-1-FS) (9MM)...it has become one of my favorites to shoot because it is... reliable,smooth and soft shooting. I enjoy the 1911 manual of arms. My only wish the front site was replaceable...ie. the "blade" front site, no dovetail. I appreciate your channel, I realize lots of work goes on both in front of and behind the camera.

Fun idea. I very un-cleverly bought a Rock Standard 9mm a couple of years ago and then discovered the 22TCM. Contacted Armscor but was unable to buy the TCM barrel and spring separately. The gun suffered no malfunctions but didn’t shoot the same kind of groups my Sig Tacops 1911 .45 did so it got traded off for my M&P2.0 last year. The main take away is that it worked, as opposed to some people who seem to have reliability issues with RIA product. If I’d bought the Tac Ultra I guess I might still have it. Good stuff, KS! Just wanted to say something nice about RIA. Oh, if I recall my research correctly, the 22TCM case is a necked down .223, not 9mm (brass too short). If they still have the program, one can send in used 22TCM brass to Armscor and they will send new ammo at a discount.
@KSGunGuy016 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct about the TCM being a necked down .223. My bad, lol. It’s a bummer they woundn’t Sell the barrel by itself but it may be worth a revisit at some point. They are crazy fun. Thank you and cheers as always Jake!

".22 Tuason Craig Micromagnum" It's the Twenty-two Tickle Me now. The parent case is actually the 5.56x45 and it's a very fast little round that beats out the .357SIG. I'm surprised Tokarev fans aren't jumping all over it. Selling combo options for drop-in barrels is a great idea. It's always a bonus for shotguns too so I'm glad it's extended to pistols.

I grew up in a time before mandatory hearing protection when shooting. Many a round fired from .22lr up to .300 Win Mag and everything in-between. While I ain't gonna claim to have pin-drop hearing, I certainly ain't deaf. My hearing is in no way a disability/liability. By all means, take every precaution to protect yourself in every possible way. Still, unless you're a true competition shooter burning through thousands of rounds a year I am gonna say it's much ado about nothing.

Great video. You always do such great job, thorough and in depth but not at all long winded. I own the basic double stack version of the tcm and, now that I polished all the moving parts, absolutely love it. I wish it would catch on because it is an amazing round and I'd love to see it offered in other platforms like an AR15 pistol. Interestingly, I believe from the research I've done, when you get below about 10" of barrel, the tcm generates more velocity and less muzzle flash and recoil than the 5.56 due to the faster burning powder. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for another great review as usual KS!! My Rock Island Ultra FS HC (16+1 10mm) has been really reliable, even after 300 rounds of Sig Sauer and S&B jhp Ammo. I agree that only 1 magazine is ridiculous, and these double stack mags aren’t the easiest to find. I do have several of them at this point. I guess it’s a trade off considering how much “custom” stuff is already on this 1911 right out of the box: skeletonized trigger, commander hammer, fiber optic sights....etc.

Great Video ! Its actually a .223 Remington bullet that is shortened. You Know the AR 14 bullet as Joe Biden says! :) So basically you are shooting a rifle bullet in a handgun, that is why the speed is crazy at up to 2100 FPS and almost 400 ftlbs of energy. Its about the same overall power as a 9mm . The +P 9mm rounds have a bit more total power. I would add, Its extremely economical to shoot. Its April 2020 and I just purchased 1200 rounds of nickel plated brand new 40 gr. brass ammo for 329.00 (almost $.27 cents a round) After shooting, I can reload them for about 14 cents! This is even cheaper to reload than my .45 acp and much more lazer like accurate out to about 300 yards or so. Farther than I can shoot a handgun for sure. Also, They make these guns in 8 +1 round single stack or 17 +1 double stack models! So You can now walk around with a 1911 with as many rounds as a Glock in 22 TCM or 9mm! Its extremely easy to rack the slide on these because it takes a low pressure slide spring. So If you have arthritis or a wrist injury this may be your ticket to a semi auto! The recoil is extremely mild so for small framed women or young shooters, this is perfect until they grow into more powerful rounds.

One of the better things that Rock Island did was to hire Fred Craig and bring in the .22TCM cartridge. No, the 22 TCM is not a necked down 9mm. It is a necked down .223. Very little recoil, tons of fun muzzle blast and 2,000 feet per second! So how did Rock Island get the 22TCM and the 9mm cartridges to work in the same magazine? They used 38 Super magazines. Being able to use the same magazines for both cartridges is a bonus on this pistol. Rock also offers this weapon in both single stack and a double stack 2011 version. The double stack gives you 17 rounds in a mag. Having a 1911 that includes barrels for both cartridges is a great deal, especially when you consider that these pistols are heavily discounted at most retailers. Expect to pay around $650 to $700 for their higher end "ultra" versions. There's also a "hidden" bonus to the Rock and the 22TCM cartridge. Rock Island offers a little bolt action rifle, chambered in 22TCM. The rifle uses the same magazine that is used in the double stack pistol. You can find the bolt action rifle for around $350 street price. The 22TCM, fired from the bolt action rifle, yields around 2,800 feet per second! If you own a Glock or other model 1911, Rock Island offers a conversion kit that allows you to shoot their 22TCM 9R cartridge. The kit includes an entire slide and barrel assembly. The TCM 9R is slightly different than the TCM in that it will work in a standard 9mm magazine versus the .38 Super mags used in the standard TCM models. The TCM cartridge isn't difficult to find. While you might not see it on your local retailers store shelves, it is readily available on various internet sites.
@KSGunGuy016 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments! Yes, it's a necked down .223... I misspoke on that one. It sounds like you are a big fan of the gun and I can see why. It's a great quality product and considering you get two guns in one, it's hard to beat. Cheers!
@horseman19566 жыл бұрын
I am a fan, but it has more to do with the cartridge than the actual pistols. The various 1911 offerings from RI are certainly good quality, but the cartridge is what first attracted me to their handgun offerings. The 22TCM in a model 1911 is a fast, flat shooting and very accurate cartridge. In a way, I was somewhat disappointed when they brought out the 22TCM 9R cartridge. While it is a great way to get the 22TCM into non-Rock handguns, I don't think it will be a big seller and, more to the point, I think it leaves people confused about the difference between the two cartridges and will take attention away from a "pure" 22TCM solution. We're already seeing this concern reflected in RI's reduction in the variety of their 1911 offerings chambered in 22TCM. I was particularly disappointed when RI released their concealed carry 1911 (CCO models) and noticed they are only chambered for the 22TCM 9R. While I agree that there is probably a small market for the conversion offerings for Glock and other 1911's, RI should never have chambered one of their own handguns in the shorter conversion cartridge.

@sweet65mustang6 жыл бұрын
They're are two sides to the magazine quantity debate. If you buy 1 gun, you are going to want to have at least 3 mags, correct? I prefer at least 5 if I'm actually going to use it. Now keep in mind they're not giving you the magazines, they are definitely upping the price for each mag you do get. So if the mags cost $25 each and you wanted 4 more in the deal you can expect the price to go up at least $100. Remember, no one is actually giving them away. (Except Springfield) . So now let's say you love glock and bought a 17 years ago and got 3 mags with it (that you paid for in the price of the gun) and then bought a 34 and indirectly paid for another 3 mags. Then you had to have the gen 2 and then there were fde's and mos's and gen 3' and.......... this whole time you've been paying for 5 mags each time and they're just piling up in a drawer like milspec ar15 grips (Who doesn't have a drawer of those too? ). At some point you'd look back and say " I wish these things only came with one mag, I could buy more if I wanted them. " Springfield always had a nice case that 'came with' multiple mags, holster and mag pouch. Everyone, including me, thought that was great. The holster wasn't much but it got you started. As the cases and their included kits started to pile up collecting dust, I started to realize I'm paying for all this crap. I shopped around online and started finding them without the whole kit and guess what, it was substantially cheaper. So to sum up, i wouldn't care if guns came without mags as long as the price reflected that. And hey gun store owner, if your going to sell a gun, carry the spare mags and at least one variety of ammo for it (but that's another video)

Double stack mags are $15.99 and up. regular 1911 mags are like $10and up. One is fine for me. If I need more there's tons out there and I can shop around and get what I want for what I wanna pay. instead of having three shitty mags, I've got one decent one. I'd rather have one that will work than three that should work. Nobody is gonna hand select and test 3 mags with your gun. They might tune one mag for it, but they aren't going to make sure every magazine runs well. So you might get stuck with only one good mag either way. The best doublestack mags are para mbx mags and they are $130. If they gave three with the gun that's an extra $390 and nobody would buy it. Or they can give three shitty $15 dollar ones that might not work for the same price as the stock mag. I'm happy with one decent mag, I'm not backed into any corners where my mags suck and I have to get better ones or I'm broke because I paid twice as much. I can test the gun and move on from there. 17 rounds is already plenty we talking about a 1911 here lol.

The 22TCM is a neat-o cartridge, no doubt. Very svelte. Many of it's fans are a little too overzealous when it comes to extolling it's ballistic prowess I will say. I feel that it is adequate for MOST self defense scenarios, and is certainly better than nothing. But the 22TCM throws a 40gr bullet at 2,000FPS. That's the EXACT same performance as 22 Magnum fired from a rifle with an 18 inch barrel. Granted it achieves this rifle like performance in a 1911, and far outperforms any 22WMR pistol, but I wouldn't shoot anything with the 22TCM 1911 that I wouldn't shoot with a 22WMR rifle. Their performance is identical.

Gel tests with TCM are pretty impressive, it hits hard and penetrates deep enough. You can have at least twice as many rounds on target as 9mm in the same amount of time, until you experience it, it's hard to understand just how quickly you can put accurate rounds on target with this gun
@9unslin9er6 жыл бұрын
I really hope Winchester and Federal start producing this ammo. Armscor is the only company making this at $0.50 a round. It's prohibitive. 9mm can cost less than $0.20 a round.

I love everything about it but the only problem I have is the magazine that came with it is having feeding issues 💔. Loading the 10th round is a pain in the bum & that's usually the one to jam. I loaded 8 & none of them jammed or misfed. Do you have any thoughts on that & what I could do to fix it? I'm thinking about purchasing new magazines but I just want to see what I can do first before doing so

Just bought this gun used from someone who is having a similar problem. I too will be trying out different mags. Good luck to both of us!

I have the Rock and love it but getting the 22 TCM Ammo SUCKS never in stock and if you do fine it's about 24.00 to 30 a box.. that the only grip I got about it.. You can use a 38 supper mag for the 9mm and 22 TIM it works fine and runs shmood with it

I do agree that 22TCM is difficult to find and a bit pricey. That said, the gun is a great build and shooting 9mm through it is fantastic. Thank you and cheers!

How the hell did you find ammo for the .22TCM I was looking at this gun but the ammo always seemed to be out of stock.

As I mentioned in the video, they sent me some ammo which was really cool of them. I do agree the rounds are hard to find. Hopefully with more awareness we will start to see more. Thank you and cheers!

The .22tcm is actually based off of .223 brass that is cut down not 9mm. Think of it as a .223 short
@ckim64006 жыл бұрын
Actually it was invented off the 5.56 case, close enough except the 5.56 brass has a slightly thicker case wall and minute length difference.

@@ckim6400 got me, meant to say 5.56

What's the MSRP of this 22tcm/9mm gun?
@layrad4 жыл бұрын
$891 is what I found. Typically, it will sell for less than MSRP but I bought it used at MSRP. However, I did get a second magazine and 3 boxes of ammunition to start with.

Every mag I saw you fire only had 8 rounds in it. Why?

Mine won't shoot 22tcm without multiple issues. Just like the Paul Harrel review

I had one in 9mm and it was a great gun. I personally wouldn’t get the TCM version as I have no interest in that caliber.
@KSGunGuy016 жыл бұрын
Great guns indeed Rotor! I do understand about the TCM, but I will say, it's crazy fun to shoot. Thank you and cheers!

I really don’t get how logically people are still buying and selling 1911 guns. It’s a 1910. Design, to be used in 45 caliber to stop drugged up guerilla fighters of the day. It’s like people still buying and driving Ford Model T’s sure they are Reliable and Easy to maintain. But there are far better options. Such as 9mm with Jacketed Hollow Point rounds.
@KSGunGuy016 жыл бұрын
People buy them because they are amazing guns to shoot. They have a completely different feel that modern polymer guns and it’s nice to have different options. As for the 45, it is still a potent round that many use confidently. Keep in mind, this is a 9mm, not a 45... so 9mm hollow points are well suited with this. Thanks and cheers!

When I’ve been shooting any of my numerous polymer nines for awhile it’s nice to change it up to a 1911. Or maybe I should just get yet another 9mm...

1912 modern design already exist. 🙂
