He had himself an adventure and then the angels said, ok time to be found! Amazing!

Having had a relative in that age range with dementia, it is so scary to imagine him missing. The fear, worry, and heartache. This time of year it could be deadly. God bless all those earthly angels who made sure Michael was warm and fed. It is a miracle that Avril looked and saw him on the news. I thank God for that. ❤

It might not be a bad idea to find a way of putting an AirTag on someone, I don’t know how you would do that but technology is unbelievable so get on it and this app applies to everybody who has a person diagnosed with dementia.
@MsFitz13457 минут бұрын
There are several technologies that offer this type of thing, tracking bracelets, tags to attach to clothes, etc. The problem is that the person has to keep it on, you can't force a human to be tracked like a chipped pet. Folks with Alzheimer's forget why they're wearing it, get paranoid that someone is tracking them, and take it off. I had a friend with an autistic kid who kept running away, they tried all the tracking devices but the kid would always take them off.

Homes with 'wanderers' probably need to add key locks to the inside of exterior doors and the inside of backyard gates for safety. They sell front door sets that have a key deadbolt instead of a turn-lock. Not as handy, but much safer for both those with dementia and toddlers who can be creative moving the sofa to the front door to reach the turn lock and escaping while you are on the toilet. I am so happy for Michael and his wife that he is safe, and grateful for the kind people who helped.

You know, that is a great point. It seems so intuitive for our generation but Avril and Larry are 77 and 91. Avril told me she just upgraded her flip phone for a smartphone. From her text messages, I think she has an iPhone. We tried to do a Zoom call but it was too tricky for her since she doesn't even have Facebook (as she explained to me). I was impressed with her texting skills and thought she did a great job taking pictures and sending them, so I wouldn't be surprised if she's fully immersed in the tech world sooner than we think.

It's great he's home, but it's beyond disturbing not ONE person he interacted with in his 200 miles of travel noticed he had dementia. How sad he went unnoticed for that long. Dementia is very easy to spot once you begin talking with someone and start asking them questions. If you're not sure someone might be suffering with dementia and lost, just call police to do a wellness check.

Thank goodness is blasphemy against God.
@MsFitz13444 минут бұрын
In the area where this story is from, the predominant faith group (which also owns this news channel) believes that the phrase "Thank God" is blasphemous and in violation of the commandment to never use the Lord's name in vain. In the cultural context of Utah, "thank goodness" indicates respect for God and those who believe in God. "Thank God" (even if used in the actual context of thanking God) is a cultural taboo that will offend most religious people.
