No one should be surprised at all. We all have freedom to learn anything we want to learn. Every language can be easily learnt by anyone depending on your seriousness. I can be in my ghetto, browse the internet, go to you tube and learn any language i want to learn. Also the environment which you reside can also influence you to speak the language spoken there. When you start flaunting it on social media, I believe you will be recognised. Put your candle on the candle stand so it shines for everyone to see. Don't hide in your room and expect to be heard. Besides, we have locals in Ghana who can't speak their local dialect. Even our news anchors struggle to pronounce local names. We now prefer to use English as the measure of intelligence.

Let me say this, some Ghanaians do not even value their language they think being Ghanaian and speaking German is awesome, but they forget how some foreigners also strive to speak our local language, we think others learning our language is not worth writing home about, but we learning and knowing how to speak French, Spanish German, Chinese etc... Is mind blowing and should be on tv.

People out here saying it's "normal" as if they bump into white folks in gh speaking twi all da time . If you able to speak English it's probably because you learned it in school/were taught. again if u are able to speak German or any other language it's because u need to speak it to get around there since that's wat is spoken. In her case, she doesn't/ didn't need to learn how to speak twi because English is our 2nd language and everybody virtually speaks it . As much as I don't like kissing white folks ass, the fact that she made da effort to learn how speak it and so fluently is what is amazing ..don't sit there and act like u weren't and isn't surprised she can indeed speak and express her self so well 🙄

There is no stigma around your whiteness in Ghana, Chloe. What you enjoy is white privilege. Identify it correctly so that the discomfort you feel around it drives you to change this perception Ghanaians hold about you. It's also as a result of colonialism. As a Ghanaian, I detest this attitude and have called a lot of white people and Ghanaians out for it. Few 'obronis' acknowledge their complicity even when they are called out. You sound sincere and I hope this is not simply for publicity.

On the surface, I commend her and anyone who can submerge into a foreign culture and learn the language fluently and respect the culture. To that I say, well done. Below the surface, I say to Ghanaians to be very careful! Pay close attention to historical records. A certain class of people are notorious for venturing into foreign lands and befriending the people just to learn enough to overtake it and exterminate and subjugate the natives. BE VERY CAREFUL. The new trend is to mix their seed with the natives to gain a foothold in the culture. When this happens to a large degree, the full-breeds are removed. Look around the world. There's nothing new under the sun. No hate. Just reality.
