Lot of people in the comments complaining about how Blue Dog Design Bureau is superior to this DLC. The DLC's focus is not the new parts, it's for the mission builder and new missions. Admittedly the marketing didn't communicate this very well but the parts are really not the focus of the DLC.

Watching this video and others has convinced me to buy the DLC. I think everyone was so paranoid about the EULA and having to pay for something after 5 years of free updates that they haven't given it a chance to show its worth.
@hurzelgnurk6 жыл бұрын
Yeah thats probably why the parts have switched stats(Wolfhound/J2, offset thrust(Wolfhound etc), fuel flow problems + fairing problems (service module), ultralow CoM of the "MEM" and so on. Or why didnt you use the service module? ;) For the mission builder, it's buggridden to the extent that you can't build anything complex that will work afterwards. Even the stock missions are poorly build and contain horrible mistakes which sometime makes the mission completely broken. I'd still buy it again but I'm a nutjob who would have even paid 30$ (did pay 18$ already because f.. europe) but I expect more at least in terms of quality. A 375kN CSM propulsion is just wrong..

4:50 the enormous engine bell isn't because it was made for vacuum.... it was because the contract for it was made before the Lunar rendezvous flightplan was adopted and the engine was supposed to go on the massive lander of the direct ascent flightplan... wihich was canned because of weight and complexity.
@keithcrusader6 жыл бұрын
Thank you...
@LunaNicoleTheFox6 жыл бұрын
Tho larger engine bells do increase the efficiency of engines in a vacuum.
@KayoMichiels6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, but if the engines was build to the spec it was used on the actual mission, then it would be much smaller.
@DRfronkensteen6 жыл бұрын
Uhhh not exactly. Its true the engine was initially designed to be able to land and re-orbit on the moon, but was incorporated into the redesign when they knew the direct ascent was cost prohibitive and dangerous. Size of the bell doesn't necessarily mean bigger engine or more thrust, but it makes certain engines only to be used in vacuum more efficient. Likely the direct ascent version would have had a smaller bell, as a big bell underneath you is more weight you have to lift back up, means bigger landing gear which means more weight, and has a higher risk of being damaged while landing. They likely kept the engine and added the large bell for efficiency when they changed to the orbital rendezvous mission plan.
@IstasPumaNevada6 жыл бұрын
Huh, I hadn't known that. Looks like it was about twice the thrust it would have been if it had been designed for LOR from the start. Neat, and thanks.

But it doesn't contain fuel, and there isn't enough space to put a lot of fuel. (Unless you start offsetting parts so they go inside one another.) It is more ideal to put a fuel tank.

hey crey, I just had an amazing idea for a balanced mod mod, even one that could be integrated in the game. I am not a modder so I shout it out in the empty space. 1- allow a change of paint like button to change the Hitchhiker Storage Container into different utilities (garden for food and water distiller for air&water) 2-add a second crew limit to all cabin like parts. -there would be a first limit free of any worries (normal vanilla like) -a second limit at witch the passengers need resources examples: a Mk1-3 Command Pod can contain 3 passengers but could contain 6 for a limited amount of time or if provided with the proper resources. the Hitchhiker Storage Container can normally contain 6, i would propose it contains 3 normally and 6 with resources needs. In fact, think about the big wall-e we like ships we could send into space to colonize jool's system -a humble gamer ps, and please, with all the historical stuff that is going on, I encourage you all to add a mod that oblige you to do your first few flight with a probes. It's so much logical pps, thanks, I really loved the show
@brampedgex12885 жыл бұрын
9:33 for me, the scariest thing is to have your debris you just got rid of go straight for your ship. This happened to me once in Career mode, I decoupled the Kickback thrusters early so they wouldn't damage the engine (I didn't have sepratrons) and instead, after running out of fuel, the 2nd Kickback had less thrust then my launch vehicle, and came straight back to the rocket. There was nothing I could do as it smashed into one of the first stage tail fins mounted above the Mainsail. I was lucky it didn't hit the command pod. From there I disabled the other fins to balance out the rocket, and also had to align the rocket back to it's 45 degree angle before it was too late. I barely made it into an inclined orbit.

The advantage of having it made by the devs would be better stability and integration, and experience as a whole. Like if a modder did it you would for example end up with a new 2.5m crew capsule with RCS thrusters built in while still having the no-rcs mk2 and mk3 spaceplane noses. What's that? They didn't go the extra few meters to upgrade those? Oh bollocks. Well, at least it's more stable... What do you mean it's still bugged? Really? Still. Even if you ignore the tanks/engines, the DLC still is very valuable because of the physics rewrite that allows it to run on GPUs. Oh, they didn't, it's still the same single thread CPU driven physics. >.< Yeah I don't know what they were thinking either.

Sure, you can say "It's a sandbox game", but that doesn't mean there's no demand for a sense of direction/achieving something. (or a demand for a physics engine that can run on GPUs for example) Hell, they didn't even give the Mk2 and Mk3 spaceplane parts the same honor as the 2.5m command pod (usable RCS instead of a decal). Cameron Luce I think it's free for people who bought the game before March 2012. Otherwise you have to pay. That might not be the case but I remember when Squad first mentioned a DLC they said something along those lines.

I just completed my first real Mun landing, and I built my own Apollo style mission mashed with some of the Russian parts (the Voskod capsule and the boosters to get off kerbin), but I used the Mk1 lander can ( I cheesed some extra capabilities in it by clipping fuel, a reaction wheel, Sas module and battery) -- and even with all that, I still failed to leave enough fuel for the ascent from the munar surface to get back into orbit. So I yeeted Bob up to the 11km apogee that I could achieve, EVAd, grabbed all the science, and used his jetpack to get into a 40km orbit that my command module could intercept. But that's not all: when I touched down on kerbin, I got both crew out (Valentina and Bob) and then I tried to get Bob back inside, but the door was too high. So I thought I'd roll the capsule over to get the door lower... It worked, but only after I had to chase the damn thing down the grassy planes on foot for about a kilometer or two. And I left the science inside. I was so worried it was going to hit a bump and blow up lmaooooo

So guys, we did it. We reach a quarter of a million DeltaV. 250,000 DeltaV and still growing. The fact that we reached so many in such a small amount of fuel is truly amazing.

Good video. Heads up though, your trajectory overall required more dV as you put yourself into a prograde orbit around the Mun instead of a retrograde one. For a proper orbit, you're basically making a figure 8 in between Kerbin and the Mun. Think the Apollo 8 flight patch.

I think Apollo missions took a retrograde orbit around the moon? (or am I wrong?)
