Nvidia's story begins in 1993 when three friends - Jensen Huang, Chris Malachowsky, and Curtis Priem - founded the company with a vision to revolutionize computer graphics. At the time, PCs were primarily used for word processing and simple tasks. The founders saw an opportunity to bring high-quality graphics, previously only possible on expensive workstations, to everyday computers.
Their first big break came in 1995 with the release of the NV1, Nvidia's first graphics processing unit or GPU. While it wasn't an immediate success, it laid the groundwork for future innovations. The real game-changer arrived in 1999 with the GeForce 256, marketed as the world's first GPU. This chip could handle complex 3D calculations, freeing up the computer's main processor for other tasks. Gamers loved it, and Nvidia quickly became a favorite among PC enthusiasts.

Neither Nvidia, EVGA, Apple nor AMD produce their own semiconductor chips. They all use the world's largest foundry TSMC. These companies design their own semiconductors, but they rely on foundries like TSMC, Samsung or Global Foundries for their chip manufacturing. Intel has a small foundry operation, but they have not yet matched the advanced process node that TSMC can provide. Nvidia has expanded far beyond hardware. They provide the hardware and the software for AI. Furthermore, with their partner SMCI, they can provide the racks ready for installation into server farms.

Apple is a closed ecosystem, Nvidia is open source. Apple is more consumer AI, Nvidia is industrial AI. Two different companies that can easily exist in the same space.

I don’t feel Apple is a threat to Nvidia, but they eviscerated Intel. Apple doesn’t really have aims for data processing for data centers (except maybe its own). I could see them developing their own A.I. data center chips, it only for themselves.

While Apples M chips look pretty good, it does not mean it can take over Nvda chips easily. Chip designs (for different usage model) is not simple. The example mentioned in this video on M1 success was primarily due to the choice of foundry. Apple had to ditch Intel chips for the Mac computer because Intel process node was lagging TSMC at that time. As a result, Apple M chip success was really attributed by TSMC. Now, with both Nvda and Apple using TSMC, it is not easy to take over Nvda's chip design just like that.

The best we can hope for is that the Mac will become dramatically more powerful. Perhaps Apple will create a data center architecture.Inagine A data center completely designed to run MacOS. Think a rebirth of xserve.

Since the release of M1 chip, I have been dreaming of having a macbook for gaming, video production, and other graphics extensive tasks. But the problem I have heard with Apple's chip even until now is when it comes to gaming. Their M chips can't compete yet with NVIDIA. Gaming was lacking according to many people who have experienced it. Right now, most people still use NVIDIA graphics for gaming. But if we're talking about video editing, Apple's M chip is by far the most reliable of all.. I just hate their iPhone so I'm still using android phones that are more capable than iPhone. Also, not to mention that Apple has been the copycat in tech industry. It's no surprise that they copy NVIDIA.

Im using a bluefield 2 dpu with a 4070ti super and cuda is great . What isnt is data compression . Downloading at 500 gbps is definitely possible. But i have to verify integraty 2x . Still worth it but better software

Cinebench benchmarks show that a 4090 is 3x faster than the M2 Ultra, apples best chip. No, Apple will never beat Nvidia because Nvidia uses their own chips and Apple uses ARM chips with a smaller instruction set, which means instructions have to be run on software which makes it slower. ARM (M1 & M2) is pure RISC architecture while Nvidias chips are also RISC but with more instructions sitting between RISC and CISC. And noone is even close to get to AI CUDA performance, and we all know where thats going. The gap will only get bigger.

58% of NVidia's revenue comes from graphics cards, and the vast majority of those customers are gamers who are unlikely to switch from PCs to Macs - only a small segment of users in that segment doing professional visualization MIGHT be tempted to switch platforms from PCs to Macs. 42% of NVidia's business is in computation and networking, and Apple has 0% chance of even entering - much less capturing - any of that business.

Nvidia is just a " component " - a good one to be fair. Any component in a system is just as good as the weakest component or the sum of all components in any given system. That's including the cooling, manufacturing - eHhmm suldering, cough - of motherboards or consumables ( spinning drives,SSD and RAM memory etc. ). If and when Nvidia dares to design and manufacture " a complete system " worthy of their claimed core tech then they might have something to brag about. Until then they have to play nice with the rest of kids in the industrial park.

The M1 Max is close to the performance of the NVIDIA RTX 3080 on the MSI GE76 laptop, but with lower power consumption, even though the M1 Max has 32 GPU cores. The M1 Max is the most powerful processor among all Apple processors because it has 10 CPU cores and 32 GPU cores (57 billion transistors).
