It’a song about the superficial world of social media, where most people try to impress others, use filters to underline their beauty and where we only show what we think other people will LIKE. We live in weird times and for me (and I think I speak for many other people) it is extremely difficult not to constantly take the phone and check messages and scroll through feeds and stories. It is an addiction and it’s horrible. And even more horrible is the fact that seeing so many people who seem to have the perfect life, the perfect face, so many friends, the perfect lovestory etc. does something to one‘s self-esteem, self-image and our feelings, even if we think it doesn‘t. I, for example, KNOW that social media is not real life and people usually don’t talk about bad days, fights with friends and family, depression, anxiety etc. - I KNOW that, but nevertheless I sometimes scroll through stories and compare myself to others and pity myself for not having what others seemingly have. And I also love trying those magic filters that smooth your face and give you fuller lips etc, and I am kind of shocked when I take a selfie without using a filter :D But I can handle it
But imagine what this does to younger people, to kids and teenagers who are just trying to figure out who they are, who are insecure about their looks and who think they are only good enough if their pictures get enough likes and their channels enough subscribers. We must tell them, that it is okay NOT to be OKAY and that it is okay not to be perfect and that it is okay to talk about how they feel, to encourage them to be LOUDER, to not be INVISIBLE and hide their true feelings. That they are beautiful the way they are and that those numbers they are hunting (likes, followers, subscribers….) do not say a thing about how lovely, precious and wonderful they are! We are MORE than just numbers! SO MUCH more!
Love,
KTEE
