Couldn't agree with your summary more RJ - Having recently ridden the GT and the Super Duke R, and as a GS owner, you are spot-on. All are excellent bikes, but if you just want fun then the Super Duke R is the way to go....what a nuts machine!!! Loved it....

RJ, I think if you rode a stock 2016 1290R instead of yours, you might find it more similar to the GT. The power specs of 1290R reduced after the time you bought so it mightve become gentler too. And the seat of GT is wider than R isnt it? That also makes it feel taller when you put your foot down.

I really like the GT over the R.Wish i could buy the GT along with an S1000R, those have to be two of my dream bikes currently. They change a lot.... lol, when you can't afford any of them its easy to say you want them all at one point or another.

+1 for the pillion comfort. Rode 2 up to Valencia on my GT. She discarded the airhawk as the standard pad was rated very comfortable even over a 350 mile day...her normal perch is a K1600!

That GT has something to it that i can't really explain... It's got a beautiful aggressive and composed style, despite not being a straightforward good looking bike, if that makes any sense. I'm still undecided if I will go for it, or the new 1290 or the GS... Decisions...Decisions... These new KTM's as far as I'm concerned, are the most interesting bikes at the moment.

Bike Life It's just an additional resonator to cut down some of the noise. These bikes a brutally loud straight through decat.

When comparing the difference between these two bikes, I'm finding very little differences between them other than KTM is offering to trade my 2016 'R' with Full Extras and 25,000km for their 'GT' Standard with 9,600km which has the slightly Higher Windscreen for $6,000... According to KTM Specs, the main difference is the Fuel Capacity which the 'GT' has 22-liters vs 18 liters. 1290-GT vs 1290-R... Fuel Capacity: 22.00-litres/5.81 gallons vs 18.00-litres/4.76 gallons Seat: Touring vs Standard HP: 173hp vs 180hp Weight: 205kg vs 195kg Base Price: €18.999 vs €17.399 I decided to keep my SD-R for these obvious reasons...

I have a major problem, friends. Rode the SuperAdv S which I rode last year and liked it. Tried the new GT and it blew me away. The price however doesnt doesnt appeal to me. How does the latest SDR compare to the new GT? Worth buying a 2nd hand SDR and saving a few thousand? The GT is still new and commanding £16700 everywhere. Thanks.

@@royaljordanian Thanks. I just rode the older GT so can do a quick comparison. Fundamentally, it's the same bike. You would find it difficult to know the difference unless you looked at the clocks or didn't have access to down quickshifting. The newer bike is a bit smoother at low speed and has better fuelling. Other than that, almost identical.
