KTM 450 SX Maintenance on Rainy Days

Raining non-stop here in Texas, there is no better time to perform motorcycle maintenance. Adjusting valve clearance, changing the clutch pack and dampers, and adding tricked out parts turns into entertainment while waiting for the tracks to dry up.

Quick tip on the sticker that is driving you nuts. Heat it next time it comes up, push it back down n apply a small amount of super glue just along the edge. It takes hardly any and you should not be able to see it when done.

So, I’ve been going through your videos a little. I noticed you pulled the tall seat, lowered pegs, and bar risers off. Did you noticed a negative effect from them? I’m 6’4” and going through the making the bike fit deal but from what I’m reading people are saying “ ride it like it is and get better. It’s set up fine the way it is” thanks for posting these videos bud!

Good eye and you are on to what I started to feel myself. I have a science background and because of that, I figured I was raising my center of gravity and potentially making it more challenging to corner the bike. The turning point was when I bought a new bike and hadn't had a chance to make the changes yet. I took it and a modified bike to the track and could definitely corner better on the bike with the stock components. That stated, I really do feel like those modifications helped me in the beginning before I started to gain a little bit of experience and albeit technique (though I have a long way to go). I found a set of bars you might like, I can run them without the bar risers and still feel comfortable. They are the Renthal RC High Bend model. For foot pegs, I eventually realized that going to a bigger, wider peg actually decreased the room I had between the left peg and my gear shift lever. I realized that the longer gear shift lever wasn't a good fit for motocross because with good technique you are riding up on the front of your foot (the balls of your feet as many call it) and with a longer shift lever, it requires you to move your foot that much further forward and off the balls of your feet each time you shift. It can make it more difficult to stay planted at times when you really need to be weighting the left foot peg (like right hand corners). But again, until I became more comfortable on the bike none of those things mattered because I was doing good just to stay on two wheels! I was doing good to keep my foot off of the top of the gear shift lever. If you have any questions about products let me know, there is a solid chance I may have tried it already. LOL!
