Their prices have not been high. They've always offered "more"; at least on paper; for the money than Euro rivals Ducati and BMW. While pushing the limits more than the more conservative Big4. My issue with them, and I don't think I'm that weird, is that they seem to have believed that street bike buyers are AS willing to put up with little niggles in exchange for saving a few grams or increasing "performance" a little bit, as dirt bikers tend to be. I don't think that's the case: In the dirt, even tiny amounts of added weight becomes immediately detrimental. To the point where riders are willing to put up with more maintenance and a higher risk of having to fix stuff, to avoid some grams. On the street, unless one is racing, it's not THAT big a deal. While being stuck in the shop, to most people IS a big deal. They're a big company now, though. With a very well defined brand, iconic models and the technology and staff to design and deliver very high performance bikes at competitive prices. In the dirt, they're dominant. There's plenty value there for someone to enable them to continue, even if they may have to shrink a little during some restructurings.

Ktm Bought a 1290 sas 2023 , never going to buy KTM ever again, abs pump issue causing panic brake randomly, started to have coolant lost 250ml in 4 days and counting , paint peeling everywhere on the clutch bracket and reservoir , battery drain issue , between 50-80km the steering will wobble uncontrollably , if you let go and will also go right instead of straight. There was also a chemical / electrical smell when starting in the garage , the wireless key even in the bike compartment kept being out of range . KTM dealer said everything was "normal" . The adaptive cruise control took them a month to fix . I traded it and never looking back , lost thousands but that was better then keeping it. Dangerous bike. The first was a 390 Duke that needed a couple repairs; a leaking thermostat housing, and an over torqued plate that holds the fuel pump causing a leak from the bottom of the tank. Easy fixes on a little bike that bigger bikes couldn't touch on mountain roads. The other two are 890's; a Duke R and an Adventure. The problem with this from my small business point of view, is that there will not always be rich people, but there will always be poor people, and rich people tend to get bored with toys very quickly. This is probably not the reason KTM suffers, but they sure are very expensive in my country compared to the japanese bikes.

"When it comes to Japanese motorcycles, even 20 years old can be easily repaired due to the availability of parts" To be fair, it's not they make all that many parts -- it's that they hardly sell any of the parts since people don't need them much, so they still have new old stock parts for decades! Eventually they run out and parts are NLA for 30+ year old bikes all the same. 🙁 Obviously they use a lot of commonality, so they might have a part in stock for your 1984, but if it's a rare model specific part it may very well be unavailable.

Just this year KTM bought 50.1% of MV Agusta, a company that has been a money pit since the late 1960's! Continually buying other manufacturers and producing the same bikes with different paint schemes and brand names defies logic as well as business logic. Now that CF Moto (and Bajaj) can produce effectively KTM's at a much lower price, and not in bright orange, why would you buy a KTM? Add in the KTM reliability issues with camshafts and poor customer service and KTM has lost sight of how fragile the motorcycle market is, certainly in Europe.

Coming from a quad racing background, I've seen all this before in the MX and SX series of 450cc quads, as well as the technology sharing partnership with Polaris in the Outlaw series of quads. Some blamed the Global Financial Crisis but in reality, these were classic examples of good design concepts done very badly in regards to inherent unreliability, while still expecting customers to pay premium purchase and spares prices! As so many have alluded to in the comments below, this is the price paid when ANY manufacturer is out of touch with the reality of their customer's needs and consequent complaints. An immediate example I can point to is a friend of my son's recently purchased a 390 Duke new. He can't ride as it constantly overheats and has to be shut down. Its been back to the dealer several times. The dealer agrees there is a problem but KTM state its not a warrantable issue for a variety of fictitious reasons, including that they BELIEVE the rider is pushing the bike too hard despite the dealer stating there is no indication of this and there is a cooling issue with the bike which they want to resolve for their customer. What more can be said......??

Apart from a big heap of unsold motorbikes, I suspect KTM actually has very few assets. Most manufacturing is done in factories owned by sub-contractors, in the far east. Can’t speak for the road or adventure stuff but KTM group enduro bikes far superior to their competitors, there is a reason that every enduro event is a sea of orange with splashes of red and white. Get shot of the money pit brands like MV and stick with what KTM are good at.

As an MV owner, I was elated to hear of the news that the KTM/Pierer Group acquired a majority stake in the company and this actually influenced my decision to buy my MV. I Hope it's not buyer's remorse now. What do you do with a boutique bike if you can't get parts?

It seems like a shame, I like the way they bring something different and the small Dukes look like good starter bikes, but I've never owned one so have no bad connections with them. I'm not sure with companies getting their engines supplied in China unless they have very tight quality control checks. The stories of the camshafts was big news and they tried to ignore it. Too bad.

I loved the original KTM’s 950 Adventure, SM, 640 and 400 Enduro. Fantastic machines. Nothing about KTM is genuine anymore. They sold out their ethos to profit.

KTM have also not been interested in engaging with local clubs/organisations trying to keep trails open. No trails, no sales.

As a consumer, especially now at this day and age, there are so much choices, priced accordingly to your spec, ... dont really care what happens to KTM. To most, its just another 3 letter brand that i cannot justify the cost. We the consumers are no longer enticed by "LAVISH BRAND NAMES" (Gucci, BMW, MV Agusta to name a few) so that you can attract attention. We are now at the stage of practicality, conscious purchasers and most of all reliability!! Those who cares about Brand for sake of image are "Pompous Brats" that would soon go broke just like "KTM" !! 😂

The solution is simple, fire the CEO. Many years ago, I remember reading the news of KTM discontinuing the RC8 for some stupid reason. I told myself, this company is doomed. Another reason, the management should know that there are other colors in world other than orange and black.

My take is they grew way too fast for their own good. That includes expanding brands without a clear strategy: Husqvarna, Gas-Gas using EXACTLY the same components with different badges. Buying MV Agusta did not help and probably was the last nail to the coffin. Managing a multi brand portfolio is not an easy feat, especially in a declining market. They expanded into ANY type of racing even without having any heritage in Road racing. "Expand, expand " was their operative motto as opposed to "Ready to Race". And, I almost forgot , the EV division burned a lot of cash. What for? Nobody buys those electric toys. The only ones that talk about them are non-bikers and tree huggers. And once a company expand too fast the pool of management talent gets spread too thinly. No wonder they have quality problems right and left plus issues with dealers. "Pier you blew it, your legacy sucks" would be their departing motto!

I have a 2020 Husky 300 and it’s super reliable. Look at any hare scrambles or Enduro starting line and it’s all KTM or sub brands. The Duke and Super Duke are great for Canyon riding and my Superduke GT is the Uber Sport touring V-Twin and more than 5-$8k less than the Multistrada. Top of the pyramid. The Adventure versions are also lighter with better suspension than any of the competitors, although the cam follower issues are a risk issue worth getting the extended warranty for.

Had a new EXC 500 for a couple of years. Hated the bike. It was the first year they locked the electronics so you could not tune the bike. Horrible. The darn thing would stall in the worst possible places and moments. Never had this problem with my Suzuki. Hated it; sold it. Arrgh.

They make some great models, but they have a terrible reputation for quality / reliability. Whether this is justified or not, they really need to to something about this reputation. People don't like paying premium prices unless the product is actually better, and has a reputation for being better than everything else. The only bike I ever had problems with was a KTM, and won't be buying another.

Never owned a KTM, but I have a lot of admiration for this brand. Sadly I believe CEO’S , Bean Counters ect are responsible for the demise, whether by accident or by design we may never know the Truth. CHINA made bikes are on the March and as people’s money tightens they shop for value for money. Obviously KTM’s reliability has been an issue. Fingers crossed this Brand survives.

Don't understand why people bring up their Marketing stunt regarding the tech pack! the research and development for those technologies is expensive and the idea was just brilliant in my book! Most of if not all cars businesses use this well spread tactic! beside their financial problems has nothing to do with this! this is a fantastic company doing fantastic bikes, employing many man, woman and family's and lets hope they get out of this burden!

The first thing they are going to have to do is give new engines to all the people that bought an 890 Duke with camshafts made out of peanut butter. Bad news travels fast in this world today and they cannot hide from the public that they ARE NOT honoring their responsibility under warranty and beyond warranty for their engineering shortcomings.

Farhr-zeug-bau sounds like: "FAHR-tsoyk-bow" If the "ts" sound is tricky, you can say something like "FAR-zoik-bow" as a close approximation, though it's not entirely accurate.

I red on a KTM tank: "entirely designed in Austria"... and built....???? Ktm were good dirt bikes, but street bikes were NEVER on par with Japan's. Totally another level of industrialization. For the future, some Chinese brand will put a KTM badge on their cheap copy, and everyone will be happy. Exept for real bike lovers....

Seriously, KTM should give adjustable seat down to 800 cm or 810cm for Indians. Sales will improve by 5x. . Even though KTM is like dream bike for every Indian, KTM group ride programs are successful in India and KTM service team is lively. Indians reject KTMs only because of seat height. . People come to showrooms in high spirits but leave immediately after height-checking Adventure 390 and Husqvarna. People who do buy KTMs regret the seat height. It does not inspire confidence on Indian traffic & off roads. When you are tiptoeing, motorcycle feels heavy even without pillion rider.
