I just got a 2020-790 Duke with very little kms. It is great. Light and it is very nice around corners. I agree that this is a really quick and impressive type bike. I am very happy as I understand that all bikes cater to one area, but it is hard to get a bike that is all things to all people. This bike suits me perfectly. Happy riding and thanks for the video.

Single indicator makes perfect sense to me! As an engineer, I would design it this way. One place to look instead of two, to see if your indicators are on. It's up to you to remember if you've indicated left or indicated right. This cuts the glance time in half! =)

I am watching this because yesterday I was in a new KTM shop getting my Duke 390 rear brake fluid changed. A number of these, probably 2020s, were in: zero miles. It's got me thinking. This is in Southeast Asia, so maybe too fast for here. My 390 is pretty brisk. The engine on the 790 is stunning visually. The indicator set-up is the same on my 390. I don't think it matters. Useful review.
@aleloAT5 жыл бұрын
the indicator light is normal - on the sub 1290 they only have 1 light for it (unlike the SDR) so it just shows you that you got them on, but not which and the sub 1290s dont have hazard lights anyway (unless you use the alarm system which allows you to put them on with a tripple press on the alarm fob

Love the KTM, since the 80's. They come from enduro and motocross, which explains ergonomics and handling. Engines are superb. I have a 250 2stroke and I would love a duke 790. Used to have a super Duke, too scary for me.

Hi Tom, a good review of an Austrian bike! And as an Austrian patriot I have to say: I also don't really like the style... :-) Maybe the KTM "Adventure" I would accept in my 20 bikes Garage, but the Duke series is not mine… (although I'm sure quality of the bikes and riding fun is on a high level - to be at least a little bit patriotic..) - Have a nice Weekend!

Haha garage is up to 20 now eh? I'm gonna try more of the ktm range out, next on the list is the super duke 1290 r which I'm pretty excited about after trying this. Looks have grown on me a bit since riding it. Have a ride of one if you get the chance, it's very fun

Great vid, subbed. If you were choosing between this and the Yamaha MT09, which would you consider better?
@TommyBarnezTV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Very hard to say which is better as I think so much is down to preference. If I compare my test rides on both then i remember the duke having more impact, however the mt09 was tested on the same day I tested the mt10 which would have clouded the image of it slightly. I'd say ride em both, a clear winner for you will be clear then
@Michael-y2x7o5 жыл бұрын
Having ridden both of those bikes back to back at COTA this year, I would always choose the KTM 790 over the MT09 any day, and that's coming from a fan of triples and Yamaha.
@caffeinful5 жыл бұрын
Hmmm sound advice, thanks for the replies. I have ridden both. It seems the fit and finish (everything from exposed wiring to bolts) seems to be better on the KTM. I do like the cast aluminium frame of the MT09. Handlebar switches on the KTM are more premium. Engines...I would say very different but to me the MT09 feels quicker. Filtering (a large part of my daily commute), I would give to the KTM. Yamaha is wider, at the bars and annoyingly the engine (right hand side-this sticks out a lot and sometimes get in the way of my leg. Also when putting the right foot down I have to spread it further from the bike due to its width), and the damn indicators. Turning circle on KTM is better, Yamaha is still good though compared to other bikes I have ridden. Fuel economy, I’m certain the KTM is better. Insurance, Yamaha is a little cheaper. Cost of upkeep, I’m certain the Yamaha is cheaper, oil used, filter costs, service costs. Engine temp in traffic on a hot day, this surprised me having owned a 690 duke, but the KTM managed its temps better! I know right!? Seating position, I think the Yamaha was slightly more comfortable (more upright). Cost is roughly the same when shopping around. Only concern now is reliability of the KTM...?

@MrTrek1645 жыл бұрын
FinGeRs CroSseD I've had an old hornet and it was a good bike in its day with a great 4 cylinder motor but lacked character '.The 790 is far better in every aspect and has all the electronics you'll ever need .I use mine 2 up with luggage and a top box and have done some motorway trips on it with no problems at all combined with great economy even when thrashing about . 60 + mpg is the norm .I fitted a screen for touring and that works great and allows 90 mph + cruising without ripping my head off ,but even without the screen 80mph is know issue .

I haven't tried an SV650 so difficult to compare like for like however my inside leg is about 33inch and I felt there was loads of room. I think your knee will be bent at a more comfortable angle too so I would guess you will be fine... unless you're some freakishly tall giant :D

Ooh really hard question actually. Would depend entirely on the riding. Personally I'm in and out of traffic, lots of filtering which I would prefer the more upright seating position of the duke more. However if my daily riding was more open road twisties then the triple RS would probably get it. Both great bikes, ride em both and see which one feels more right to you.
