Pull the manual decompression and get it rolling then release…or just replace the cam .lots of them out there in good shape.

I see i'm late at the party, but there's no question about what it is. It's the auto decompression. It wears after a few years off use and does not lift the valve enough to decompress anymore. My tech welded a little metal upon the rod and remodeled it back to specs. It worked just fine after that for a while , but now the issue returned. I just help the startermotor by kicking with the kick if needed. That works just fine too....Rest is rocksolid on my 2007 exc 525 ;)

Replace ground wire with heavier copper wire and run to capacitor bolt or cdi bolt. For pretty sure you could ground anywhere on frame as long as heavier copper wire is used. That bs braided aluminum wire mine came with (2002 520 sx) was junk.

I sort of have the same issue, mine does start after trying a bit though.. Will check wiring, clean everything up and put it back with a bit of electrical grease, will report back if it resolved the issue

On my side it was weak battery combined with week starter brushes and combined with incorrect valve clearance After readjuting the valves, starting was much better.

@@AlexandruGaal what did you do about the starter brushes? I replaced battery with a brand new lithium-ion one. I dont think it's about the valves for the both of us because it's the startermotor that keeps stopping with cranking

I did several things, not sure which solved the problem, or if it was a combination of all: So I replaced the brushes of the starter motor, rewinded the statur, because my charging was not very good....adjuster the valve clearances, cleaned and adjusted the carburator.

Hi, did you fix the problem with starter? I have the same effect, new battery according to technical manual, starter after checking and replacing parts , engine after adjusting valve clearance and oafter changing cylinder and piston . Starter don't have enough force to turn engine - it's like in your cause.

did several things, not wure which one fixed the problem new battery, rewinded stator, new starter motor brushes, re-adjusted valves

I've got the same problem. I've fitted a new starter and battery and the problem is still there. Valve's is my next job.

Valve clearance out of spec, also maybe auto decomp not working correctly

@@AlexandruGaal had to reset the idle to very low.mixture adjustment had to reset the idle to very low.mixture adjustment screw 1.5.higher starting current battery.and it starts.and it starts.
