Mines now done 14hrs and Its running fine I'd get the dealer to check the throttle sensors Keep us posted

This is the Rev limiter. The TPI comes with a Rev limiter because it doesn't have the natural fall-off that a carb does at max revs
@RWWRENTAL5 жыл бұрын
I dont think TPI come with rev limiters. My bike is doing the same thing and every once in a while, it has a smooth response with no pinging.

Seems to run fine under a load...In neutral you are just hitting the rev limiter. (Great wheelies btw).

Cold start on TPI bikes it is very different as they only get pure oil injected into the crank and it takes time for oil to get to the piston specially in cold climate areas (like here where summer is +5C to +10C) and when doing winter riding. There is many videos here of pistons of TPI show wear marks probably caused by lack of lubrication on the piston during cold start. KTM should maybe make another cold start oil injector to lubricate the piston when starting. .......

The problem seems be only when you are in neutral, it doesn't appear when you ride full gaz in the field no ?
@Lewiseyers5 жыл бұрын
Pmsl...its fine when riding, which the bikes designed for.... Sitting stationary revving the cock of it, it sounds as you'd expect from a engine of the state of tune...lol... Some people crack me up

Have you replaced the fuel screen (the fine filter on the fuel line) to new one yet? The user manual suggests to replace one after only one hour of riding at the beginning and then after every 20 hours or so. I didn't replace mine yet, will wait for symptoms of clogged filter and replace then.

"And due to the nature of FI and its ability to allow the engine to spin to ridiculous RPM without falling off like a carbureted motor, KTM had to place a rev limiter inside the ignition so riders didn’t blow the bike up with excessive RPM. So often times on a wide-open upshift you can hear a loud pop from the exhaust that some assumed was due to a lean condition which isn’t the case." Hi you fix this or its not the problem ? mine exc 300 212 do fuly the same thing
@a647386 жыл бұрын
It is supposed to run lean when not under load after what I have heard?... You need to test it while under load to know if it is actually running lean (look at videos on how to use spark plug color to find that out). The electronic fuel injection system adjust the mixture different if it is under load, what rpm and all kinds of other factors. My brand new 2019 mod KTM 500 EXC F is running so lean that top speed is 95km/h... Something is wrong with it and dealership of course have closed for summer holliday a week and it is 5 hours drive to get there lol (my kind of luck).

My cr 250 does the same thing...was it a lean pilot.you can tell your bike is lean by how the revs hang when you chop the throttle.these idiots saying it's a rev limiter obviously didn't listen to it rev higher...wtf.

KTM TPI EXC 2018 models are running very good in low revs at the bottom end, but on top end the bike is running lean, maybe that is ok but its weird. So EXC250 TPI is using a lean mixture of gas and air.
@maverick22427 жыл бұрын
The Dirtbike Rider #2 No Music you have 5 different sensors with the TPI bike, if not the fuel filer as suggested above, I'd be getting those sensors checked out! Especially the throttle position sensor, as where that is will determine your fuel oil mixture at varying revs and this is what you describe, where as the fuel filter dirty from bad fuel or not being changed regularly to me would affect all rev ranges esp low, yet you don't say low is affected! My 2c ftw!

Have you adjusted the powervalve? I queried KTM why I didnt receive power valve springs with my bike, they said you shouldnt change it on TPI bikes as it will confuse the injection system, go figure.

Sounds like BS to me. Should KTM´s techicians have missed that ? Dont Think soo, its not he first time they construct a dirtbike
@RhinoStar07 жыл бұрын
Mattias Andersson copy and paste of email from my dealer - " Further comms from KTM re missing part & power valve springs :- There are no optional power valve springs with the 2018 TPI bikes and we have been informed by the factory it is not recommended to change them for previous models springs as it effects the running due to the more detailed ecu calibration. I have raised the website issue with the factory and asked this is removed. " Nuf said

That's the rev limiter. On a fuel injected bike it's an ignition and fuel cut.
@RWWRENTAL5 жыл бұрын
that is def not the rev limiter. if you check the 1:00 mark its pinging at mid range then he revs it even more in the high revs and its worse up there. if it was the rev limiter, he would not have been able to put it even more into the revs. im having the same issue except mine does not do it all the time. I dont have a rev limiter on my TPI it just keeps revving until it cant anymore

yes, and that is a big problem. With good old carb I can do whatever I want, I can adjust it precisely the way I like it, but with this fancy pantsy tpi crap if something goes wrong (and it will always do, sooner or later) you're clueless how to fix it...

I Think it´s a typical 2 stroke-thing, the on and off problem. Same thing going on a road, it cant hold the same speed though you dont move the throttle. Same thing here, without load on the Engine. Just my 2 cents.
