I love the big bold font they used for "READY" and "NOT READY", like something out of 60's or 70's science fiction. Helps make the "NOT READY" version look that much more urgent and alarming. Imagine being confronted with that all alone in the middle of the night.

In the analog case, the "Not Ready" slide presumably sourced out of the Sutro Tower, where the transmitter stands. The red slide might be obtained by the station and makes a copy to a computer for the hook up.

Tom Baker got confused about the colored plugs and the screw on coaxial connector on new and old TV sets. The AV or composite color connectors are found on newer sets. The screw on coaxial RF connector is found on both new and old sets. Some vintage TVs have twin lead connectors which you need to use a plug converter to connect the screw on connector.

My 1978 vintage Panasonic portable TV has the old antenna connection with two screws (and a switch to change between that and the built-in telescopic antenna). I actually got a Digital Converter Box for it with one of the coupons back in the day; it's the RCA one and even has a remote! I already had a Balun (the adaptor you used for the screw terminals so you could screw in a Type F Coax connector).

If you can’t get a station over the air you have to go to cable and satellite that’s not always the case. If you can’t get a certain station over the air with an antenna you have you might need to get a different antenna because too much building material and tree coverage will likely require an attic or outdoor antenna set up

That, and also the shimmering rainbow lines that cover the screen which really edges on being close to analog horror. (I assume it might've been a bad setup with the capture device and the VCR, which is why it looks like that.)

lousy presentation by KTVU 1) There's no such thing as a digital TV antenna. Existing antennas that gave decent picture and sound (most importantly, without fading or rolling) would give excellent picture and sound in digital. (In the near future, OTA users by the Bay will need a TRIBAND, 54-608 MHz, antenna, if they wish to see everything available). 2) what would hamper reception will mainly be how many buildings are around the viewers. In urban areas (and SF is the most urban place in the country) low signal strength is rarely the problem - multipath (echoes of a signal) is the worse problem by far. 3) Not all indoor antennas have an amplifier. Many are passive, thus have no plug to plug in the wall. What's with the rainbow chroma interference on the analog channel?
