Pacific swells of that size have a wave-length several times larger (20 seconds or more between peaks) than those in the Great Lakes. Pacific swells are sometimes generated by wind energy hundreds of miles from shore that only break at the shallow coastal plain creating these impressive images. Great lakes waves have a steeper slope (shorter wavelength) that hammers ship hulls with a different way than the great ocean swells ... both dangerous but in different ways. Seasoned ocean crewmen who switched to work on "laker" vessels often return to sea going vessels to avoid the incessant pounding that lake vessels experience during storms.

@DanielScruggs-i3s19 сағат бұрын
Somebody listen to this guy !! Don’t do it you will be be swept
@LBCAndrew14 сағат бұрын
The idea that someone is going to get swept out to sea from the beach is nonsense. If someone fell in the water and wasn't a good swimmer, they'd drown close to shore by a combination of hypothermia and being "thrown in the washing machine" where the waves hold you underwater. Anyone who has been surfing before knows rip currents are no big deal and if you paddle parallel to shore, you get right out of them. I surfed from age 5 till around 30. Standing on the sand is perfectly fine.
@DanielScruggs-i3s14 сағат бұрын
@ would be nice to see some documentation of your surfing from age 5 to 30. Why did you stop then? What about tsunami? Were you actually surfing at five or body boarding? What about a gnarly close out, cliffs on both sides, what are you going to do paddle to New Zealand?
