Hahaha....we malaysians are like you too always 'overbuy' whenever we go to night markets. I especially like when the father always put in positive words when the children don't like something because its new and different for them. It teaches them how to deal with life when the world around is always changing and evolving.it is great motivation. When changing your life that you are complacent with to a different situation, positivity is immensely important to keep you going and enjoy the exploration. I hope your chilfren will grow to become an international minded citizen which is tolerance in all sense. This is a harmonious world we all want to live together. Peace and salam from me a common Malaysian.
@WheretheJones7 жыл бұрын
That was very nice thing to say but it was also very inspiring. Also, the best compliment you could give a father. We definitely want our children open to the many cultures that exist. We want them tolerant and respectful because they understand different peoples. We also want them to always see the positive in people and the situations they find themselves in, because we want them working toward higher and higher levels of survival. You are right, the only constant that exists is change and children need to be prepared for it. As to your other point, yes,I totally love over buying at the market hahahah

The lady selling the chicken rice dish must be pretty nice because you keep going back to her stall! The time lapse journey home at the end was awesome , albeit a bit dizzy for me! USD15.00 for dinner for 4 with enough for next day’s lunch is cheap! Cheers!
@WheretheJones7 жыл бұрын
Yah. Man, I know. With that many options it is soooo hard for a kid to choose. Apparently she had the most "kid-friendly" display. lol. Sorry for the dizzyness. My wife actually tells me she has the same reaction, I just really want to show the walk home. It's a trade off. I have a plan that will still accomplish both that I will implement in later videos. We'll see if it works.

@WheretheJones6 жыл бұрын
Hey Guys!! Hope you are well. That's awesome that you are coming to KL. This market is behind the Setiawangsa LRT station. If you take the train, you get off and cross a parking lot and walk another 100 meters or so. It should be easy to find but worst case scenario just ask a local when you get there and they'll point you in the right direction.

I usually went to the market area to get supplies for my flower making craft.... but i didin't realise that the market was that big... the last time i went ther i think its only 2 - 3 rows of stall.... anywa y the food you bought were 1.Samosa 2. Curry Puff 3. Cucur Udang (prawn fritters) 4, The Rice Cubes are called nasi impit with kuah kacang (peanut/ satay sauce) 5.I think the chicken with rice, the red one were nasi tomato (tomato rice) and white one is nasi ayam ( chicken rice - rice cooked in chicken stock) 6. Cara Berlauk (flour, egg, water/milk/santan with stir fry minced beef seasoned with korma/curry spices)

That's alot of food :D Anyhow, most Malaysians only carry certain amount of money when we go to a night market, to avoid overspending. And some, like my sister, decides what to buy at home, then quickly go into a night market, and left as soon as she got the food she want. You should try local fruits as well, like jackfruit, star fruit, mangoesteen, rambutan and many other, when and if you got the chance. And I think your kids gonna love Cendol, a type of cold desert you can find anywhere in Malaysia.
@WheretheJones7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes not a bad idea on the money. Its hard not to buy a lot when you are hungry. Yes we have eaten all those local fruits. My wife is a certified jackfruit addict and she eats it almost every day and buys it whenever she sees it. The whole family like each fruit that you mention.

Do you shoot with the RAW / Protune settings ON on your GoPro? Or is that Gradation in Post? It really gives it a very nice cinematic feel. At least outdoors.. indoors, looks a bit too blue. P.S.. I love Malaysian food.
@WheretheJones7 жыл бұрын
Dan Heather Yah. Shoot in raw. I am still learning the ropes on the color grading. Some have commented that certain vids look too yellow. Truth be told I edited my first video ever when were in Bali a few months ago because I found out uploading all the raw footage to have someone else do it was not going to be workable especially with flaky internet. So after a large learning curve I finally started putting out some vids. I am also red/green color blind depend on my wifes opinion when she walks through the room or even my kids. On the Thailand vids I started even doing some things a bit different. Soon I'll be shooting with another set up and that will be a whole nother learning curve.

The first food your wife try is "Apam Balik". There are 2 types of apam balik. The thick & fluffy and the thin & crispy. I think you got the thin & crispy. The thin & crispy ones will get chewy after a while. You should eat it soon after you bought it. Actually both types of "Apam Balik" BEST be eaten after you bought it. While they are still hot. Then you will got the real taste of apam balik.
@WheretheJones7 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was thin and crispy. It did get chewy too after a bit. It was delicious and still slightly warm when we bit into it but can see eating it hot would be yummy-er 😋

yeah! next time you must know what's the name of these 'kuih' you bought it'. 'kuih' is general name of these food i.e kuih cucur udang, kuih karipap, kuih popia, kuih samosa and so on. Chicken rice, nasi lemak, nasi campur, roti canai or other 'heavy' foods are not 'kuih'. kuih is special light dishes especially for breakfast in the morning or hi tea in the afternoon or evening as well.

90 cents for a karipap, oh man, we're living in a dystopia. Or maybe that's just that area's average price. Here where I am, 1 karipap is still 30 cents, at most it would be 50 cents a piece, with RM1 for 3 or at most RM2 for 5. BTW, have you tried the ayam potong? It literally translates into 'cut chicken'. It's this chicken steak that they deep-fry, then sprinkle with seasoning (there's non-spicy and spicy, I prefer the spicy) and then cut into small pieces so that you can eat while you walk. Get it even if only for the Malaysian experience. You can usually find at least one 'ayam potong' stall in every night market.

ayam potong you say? chicken steak that they deep-fry, then sprinkle with seasoning you say?..... SOLD. We be on the look out next time I am in the right place.

Umm, no, that's the same size as the 50 cents one in my area. It may not have both chicken and potato in each, but the chicken karipap, the sardine karipap and the potato karipap ones are the same price at the same size where I am. The 30 cents one are indeed smaller and more common.
