Great video!!! I would also love to see Velero backing up PVs. I have all my definitions already automated so in case of a cluster disaster I can just quickly re-deploy all my k8s objects really fast. So This kind of backup is quite useful to quickly restore everything, but not so critical for many k8s users. The main problem is always Persistence.

According to me one should only be backing up persistent volumes.The stateless config (i.e. deployments / services / configmaps etc.) should be saved as yamls in a git repo (or secret management tool in case of secrets) When you want to clone a cluster, just create a new cluster. Install argocd (or gitops of your choice), point it to your gitops repo and let it restore everything.

I love Velero! I use k3s on-prem and it all works like a charm, but Longhorn seems to have some bug and fails to restore backups from s3/nfs of stateful apps, DB-enabled specifically. Velero with "use-restic" and proper namespace annotations work like a charm restoring EVERYTHING I need! and I can also schedule backups! SWEET! Thx for cool educational videos. Awesome work.

I am not able to get velero to work successfully on the new cluster. I think it has something to do with the IAM permissions. Since we already created IAM permissions and IAM service account for the velero in the first cluster, it is conflicting with the permissions for the new cluster. I need help to figure out how to make it work.

The way I using is to have all my infra terraform and pods , services in cicd pipeline. Every push will execute all pods. Still with no clear option for persistent storage Need to check valero

You'll want to create a schedule: velero create schedule daily-schedule --schedule="@every 24h" And then create a backup from that schedule: velero backup create --from-schedule daily-schedule --include-namespaces "*"
