I am impressed with not only your progress but the quality of your work she's looking very good indeed. what a difference a nice set of wheels make to a project.
@MachineryRestorer7 жыл бұрын
Thank you cibie :) The wheel took a long time to prepare before painting...although I love restoring machinery, I am not looking forward to repeating the process on the other wheel. It's very satisfying once it's done though so it all pays off.

Good progress, you probably shouldn't put the interior back in like the padding and carpet.. maybe fab up some splash shields under the cab? Interior is just gonna rot things out quick again

and all of a sudden it's looking like a tractor again :) best bit of any restoration is when you start rebuilding after months of cleaning and messing. engine starting for first time since a rebuild is my favourite bit... I may do the whole shouting 'ITS ALIVE' thing when it starts...

Next time you change the filters (oil, transmission, anything else) pour some of the liquid you are changing and is suppose to go into the filter and pour some in the filter before putting it on. Helps the system start up better in the end

Will there be much work done to the bonnet? It looks rather sun damaged and dreary compared to the newly painted parts.
@MachineryRestorer7 жыл бұрын
Yes the whole of the bonnet is going to be disassembled, rubbed down and repainted.

Erm! Can I ask what oil you were using there? Kubota would recommend using there own Super UDT oil.I work in Kubota groundcare dealer and have seen serious damage done to transmissions if you don't use correct oil. As far as I'm aware its made special for Kubota and there is no equivalent. Don't want you having any issues in future as your doing fantastic job with the rest of the tractor. Keep it up.
@MachineryRestorer7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the concern. The place I bought the oil from states it meets the spec of Kubota UDT so it should be fine.

as easily as the fenders rust out, surprised no extra rust inhibitor was used on them.

How did you restore the rims? 2 years ago I did the front wheels on my tractor (16" rims on a 2wd tractor). Boy it took me longer than I thought. I used a knot wire brush on the angle grinder and then in the end I think I swiftly used some paper and then cleaned it before painting it (with brush). The thing is that the back wheels' rims also need doing and it is 34" ! I have a sandblaster tank (the cheap Chinese version) which I haven't gotten to work well - it clogs up. Wondering if it is worth tuning it? (the compressor supplies 370 liter/min (480 liter/min theoretical)). I also have bought a needle scaler which I haven't tried at all. I'm looking for the most effective/fast way to get all paint away and have a surface to prime and paint. There isn't too much rust.

Hi I used a wire wheel and a cylindrical shaped wire brush on a power drill to remove all the rust. If it was a case of totally removing all the paint or if it had been even rustier then I would have likely removed the tyre and had it sand blasted by a professional. I think whichever approach you take it's going to be a fairly slow process.
