Kubota BX25 differential lock, disassembly - taking off the knobs?

How did the other knob end up coming off? I need to take the back plastic off a Kubota and need to know.

The other knob is for adjusting the drop rate of the three point hitch. The knob is pressed straight on and was nearly impossible to remove, so plan on buying or manufacturing a replacement. I did get mine off, however since I seldom use the three point on the BX25, the shaft seems to 'rust' in place and is difficult to rotate. Basically the plastic knob is inadequate. I will be making a metal replacement, or adapting another handle to the shaft.

It might come off easily if one were to heat it with a heat gun ? I did not try that.

Alright if you could. A guy I work with got us into a pickle with a costumers Kubota. We just need to get the back plastic off without breaking anything.

I got the plastic knob off by spaying wd40 on the shaft under the plastic, waited for it to penetrate up the shaft then placed a long 4x2 piece of wood from 1 side of the foot decking & against the shaft & slowly lifted. It moved a slight bit then I put more wd40 on & repeated the process. Popped strait off. The shaft where it goes into the plastic had surface rust which locked it on, after cleaning up the shaft the knob popped strait back on
