You moved a lot of dirt and while it looked loose, some of it had roots or rocks and that causes stresses and unfortunately a break. Your repair looks good , thanks for showin it.

Any idea if the steel is a harder alloy or if it’s just mild steel. I have a crack in the upper plate that hold a the dump cylinder on a Kubota gl3430

It’s mild steel. There was no work hardening issues and it welded perfectly.
