I attended several seminars with Maul and he is a great inspiration. Very smart and great instructor. All techniques make sense and are efficient. But everyone has to put the training in to let look so effortlos as he can do it. Maul always says that he is not faster than average but his footwork is the advantage in order to be at the right position at the right time. Great stuff and it is phantastic that he is sharing it here.

Same here, after six styles I stumbled on my Silat teacher.. and could never go back to any other style after he threw me around like a toddler.. after seven years of training and cross training in five Other styles.. sadly, he is retired now and lives too far away.. I train alone now, but even that after almost 30 years is head n shoulders above every art I have ever seen or tried. Not that I am a "Master" but I know enough to know that I'm not. :) all that said, Maul is miles ahead of any teacher I have ever seen. His videos are better than a month of 100 hours training, I respect this man and have yet to meet him.

Guru Mornie ( hope I used the right title, please forgive me if I did not) I'm sure I speak for many when I ask that you please put together some online full seminars for purchase or even an online curriculum. Lastly many of these techniques reminded me also of using the closed fan. Is the folding fan something used in the Bruneian arts? Thank you so much for sharing. I really enjoy your videos and hope one day to meet.

Standard kubotan in market is 1 and half your palm, so it's easy to concealed. Bigger kubotan is about your span. In this video are closely like japanese kubotan aka yawara, the leght is about 3 size of your palm or same leght as tanto. The idea is to bringing down the enemy without unsheating the blade

I like this style and your ability. The only doubt I have is: for every moment the partner does you do 2,3 or more movements. It means you have to move incredibly quickly or it's a demonstration of possibilities of techniques? Thanks

He's showing the 'Art' or flow of Silat. In his other videos, he explained that you need to finish the fights with only 2-3 moves to the vital parts of the body. However, because this is a seminar, the attacker ignores the pain inflicted from his early finishing blows to show us the flow and finishes that Silat has to offer. That is why some Silat in Malaysia is often called Seni Silat; 'Seni' means 'Art'. Ex: Seni Silat Gayong Malaysia, Seni Silat Cekak, Seni Silat Lincah, etc..

In demonstrating the effectiveness of any method, or way, there are certain elements involved with any endeavor. In showing the idea of what pertains to the method there is a certain degree in which one can only go. Demonstrations such as these may not always appeal to the reality in which the demonstrator is attempting to convey to his audience. This does not mean that the demonstrator is unknowledgeable of what he is doing. The degree of effectiveness can sometimes be lost in view. It behooves a watcher of the video to keep in mind what is being shown. Using your imagination as to the results is always helpful. Even imitating the elements of the movements could lead one to understand their effectiveness. Though it would behoove both the demonstrator, and the partner to keep equal, both attack and defense in a manner which illustrates reality, without, of course, actually doing anything resulting in injury. If one wishes to show the defense, then use that equal speed, plus a more realist way of attacking. There is training speed plus a manner of attacking which shows reality.

for your information, a Silat practitioner don't wait for an attack, they preempt those attack! That's why they are trained to read their surrounding and know if someone has ill will towards you! Even before the attacker can land his knife on a Silat practitioner, he will find himself laying dead or groaning in pain from a broken bone or cut in their jugular vein!

this kind of stuff looks good, and probably is way more effective than most the aikido / aikijujutsu out there, but still is not realistic. Look at how the attacker always stops the attack in mid air so that the defender can do all the fancy stuff. Now compare to videos in real life fights. Also it's very hard to apply a joint lock to a tense arm, but still this guy is one of the most legit on youtube. But it's unrealistic to think that you can base all your combat on "aiki" type of movements. Should be used like a surprise, in combination with proactive attacks and with blocks

Your words are so paradoxical. You said Silat is effective but then not realistic. Can't you see the contradiction: if Silat is unrealistic how can it be effective, silly?! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Are you speaking in relative terms? Namely in comparison to aikido / aikijujutsu? Still, how can it be effective even on relative terms if it's unrealistic, silly?! it wouldnt look just like this, neither do any martial artists expect confrontations to play out that way, its really just practicing flow, timing, reference points, leverage, etc and you having a better chance of recognizing patterns, dealing with resistance, understanding unusual timing and being able to find a reference point wherever you happen to be. Having said that I would like to see what it would look like as well, but you train to try to deal with a variety of situations and hope for the best

Lotidus Amroy a common noob comment from someone who doesnt know the difference between a learning environment and trying to show off. Guru Maul is invited all over the world to teach his methodology, he has nothing to prove to anyone. The best thing is to come to a seminar and try to do it yourself, no use expecting others to prove something for you.
