Rest in Peace Lata ji (singer), Hemant Kumar ji (composer)! You have, given us this gem. Sharmila ji (female lead actor), in her obituary to Lata ji, said that Lata ji had already poured so many emotions through her voice, that the actors hardly had to try anything special. Such was the magic of her voice and also the music by the great composer/musician.

This song has a unique appeal for me.Whichever time and how many times I listen to this song,I get transported to a different world of serenity, peace and tranquility..Kaifi Azmi saheb had written the lyrics,Hemant Kumar had composed the music and Lataji had lent her voice. Hrishida had directed the film Anupama and Sharmila Tagore had acted in the lead role of Anupama. A combination of so many talents are behind this immortal song In the silence of night I just listen to this song. It touches my heart and lifts my soul. A masterpiece.

Cannot get over her passing yet. Lata ji was always part of our ethos/consciousness, as her career began more or less at the same time as Independent India. Even as children our earliest memories are sounds and not visuals and so these songs which were playing in our homes and which helped put us to sleep made us believe that Lata ji had been around since the beginning of time. It's hard to imagine a world without her going forward. My heart feels so heavy and I feel a part of me has died.

Silence has a voice too. The voice which makes handsome Dharmendra chase a mysterious Sharmila in early hours of dawn. And that sound of silence is at its haunting best in this alarmingly serene number. People for whom music is all about loud noise and drums, should listen to it for its minimal orchestration. Anupama as a film album has some of the divine tracks of all time. Hemanta Kumar at his musical best. Seriously, how do u pick the best from the 2 breezy Asha Bhonsle numbers ( Bheegi bheegi faza, Kyon mujhe itni khushi de di), to Dheere dheere machal? But the pinnacle of this great album, arguably, has to be the two sombre solos: Ya dil ki suno duniya walo ( Hematda with a soulful rendition) and this breathy, whispery masterpiece from Lata. The time stands still when this song is on. Kaifi Azmi's imaginative lyrics are other-wordly.

and for you I live in Romania and it may sound strange what I'm going to say. the character ;; the older brother;; from Yaadon Ki Baaraat I see him now and I remember his struggle with himself to become a better person, he was a model for me when I too had some mistakes in life, I was thinking of my family so as not to embarrass them. honestly, that movie helped me to love my mother very much, and now that I'm 48 years old, because I have 2 jobs, she has a decent life and I assure her all the comfort in the world as much as I can afford to spend on her. and the music especially when all the brothers are together, tears actually come to my eyes... and I didn't watch it just once. I am grateful to Indian cinematography

@@San-tp8ss I most definitely agree. Apologies, I just got so drawn in by the visuals. Lata ji is the nightingale that the world has been blessed with. You only get a few rare gems that are naturally gifted and are true masters in their craft such as Bruce Lee in Martial Arts or Muhammad Ali in boxing. Similarly with Lata ji in singing. I love the way that in this song she transitions from the high note of "kuch dil ne kaha" to almost whispering "kuch bhi nahi" so effortlessly. She is the voice that has given soul and life to Indian cinema, and no matter how much I say about her, it will always fall short.

@@raynakaurdhanda5197 👍 you know I have heard of goosebumps but experienced in this song for the first time...when I share this song to people they celebrate just for sharing...imagine what a kind of artist Lata ji was..my God...often draped in white saree, she is the Goddess Saraswathi herself...the clarity in her pronunciation, the way she expresses every mood in the song, the pitching, when the harmonium/some instrument is played in the background even at the age of 60+ her voice used to be in sync..known for her perfect sur, Burman Dada himself had told once, 'kambakht behsure nahi gati'

I can indeed go on and on about her work with other composers/MDs, but here I was only talking about her artistic collaborations with the very composer/MD who gifted us this immortal classic. P/s 1. There is more than one song by Lata-ji in Razia Sultan, i.e. Ae Dil E Nadaan and Jalta Hai Badan, so which one were you referring to in your comment? 2. It's Khayyam, not Khayaal.

This HD Version of a b& w film Anupama (1966) has been enjoyed by over 8.3 million music lovers around the world till 12 years ago. Lata Mangeshkar had recorded this memorable song under music direction of Hemant Kumar. Poet Kaifee Azmi had compiled its lyric. Picturisation of this video sequence was done in Maha Baleshwar, a hill resort near Mumbai. Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee was a perfectionist. He asked all the crew members to get up at 5 A.M. for shooting this sequence early morning -- definitely before sunrise. Even a daily boozer like Dharminder had to obey this rigid discplinarian !
