Rest in Peace Lata ji (singer), Hemant Kumar ji (composer)! You have, given us this gem. Sharmila ji (female lead actor), in her obituary to Lata ji, said that Lata ji had already poured so many emotions through her voice, that the actors hardly had to try anything special. Such was the magic of her voice and also the music by the great composer/musician.

This song has a unique appeal for me.Whichever time and how many times I listen to this song,I get transported to a different world of serenity, peace and tranquility..Kaifi Azmi saheb had written the lyrics,Hemant Kumar had composed the music and Lataji had lent her voice. Hrishida had directed the film Anupama and Sharmila Tagore had acted in the lead role of Anupama. A combination of so many talents are behind this immortal song In the silence of night I just listen to this song. It touches my heart and lifts my soul. A masterpiece.

Cannot get over her passing yet. Lata ji was always part of our ethos/consciousness, as her career began more or less at the same time as Independent India. Even as children our earliest memories are sounds and not visuals and so these songs which were playing in our homes and which helped put us to sleep made us believe that Lata ji had been around since the beginning of time. It's hard to imagine a world without her going forward. My heart feels so heavy and I feel a part of me has died.

This song was pictured on a Hill station in a early morning Mist. Hrishikesh Mukerjee the films Director instructed Both the lead actors to get up at 4 a.m in the Morning and be ready on the location with their make up on by 6 a.m.. The song was picturised as soon as the morning light shone through, and the camera would started rolling. One can observe the early morning mist in some of the frames. If a Hit Song can be made with least amount of Instruments & Noise , then this song qualifies.. Pure bliss.

Dr. B.V.Kumaraswamy and family, Mysore; This song has no comparison to even lataji's songs of her career. the depth in Music , rendering and Lyrics are more than divine and Hemant kumar has virtually takes the RASIKAS to their core and gives the experience of pure consciousness . I am 67 and i remember our family of 7 had no idea of Hindi but this song bypassed all barriers and simply enjoy the soulful music . with Na-gin, who kaun thi, and khamoshi our music journey had taken off. no language is competent to convey our love.

Silence has a voice too. The voice which makes handsome Dharmendra chase a mysterious Sharmila in early hours of dawn. And that sound of silence is at its haunting best in this alarmingly serene number. People for whom music is all about loud noise and drums, should listen to it for its minimal orchestration. I'm sure they will change their noisy way of life and surrender to the meditative tranquility of such a divine song. Hats off Hemant da and Lata for the magic

Anupama as a film album has some of the divine tracks of all time. Hemanta Kumar at his musical best. Seriously, how do u pick the best from the 2 breezy Asha Bhonsle numbers ( Bheegi bheegi faza, Kyon mujhe itni khushi de di), to Dheere dheere machal? But the pinnacle of this great album, arguably, has to be the two sombre solos: Ya dil ki suno duniya walo ( Hematda with a soulful rendition) and this breathy, whispery masterpiece from Lata. The time stands still when this song is on. Kaifi Azmi's imaginative lyrics are other-wordly.

I came home after work and laid on the bed with my laptop beside me and accidentally saw this songs in you tube and played it. OMG..what a feeling...i went back years of my life and and thought whatever we achieved or not one day we have to go we like it or not.that feeling get in to the bottom of the heart with a lonely painful feeling whilst the voice of Lata mangekar touches the heart so hardly. Innocent and young women's feelings find wonderful expression in Lataji's mellifluous voice. She is a prayer answered by millions and millions of music lovers. Her entire life is a dedication to singing and sacrifice to her family members even now in her age of 91 remaining single. She is a philanthropist too. No wonder music world see her face in Bharaymatha's figure. Very apt indeed.

@@San-tp8ss I most definitely agree. Apologies, I just got so drawn in by the visuals. Lata ji is the nightingale that the world has been blessed with. You only get a few rare gems that are naturally gifted and are true masters in their craft such as Bruce Lee in Martial Arts or Muhammad Ali in boxing. Similarly with Lata ji in singing. I love the way that in this song she transitions from the high note of "kuch dil ne kaha" to almost whispering "kuch bhi nahi" so effortlessly. She is the voice that has given soul and life to Indian cinema, and no matter how much I say about her, it will always fall short.

Lataji has sung many fantastic songs which I have loved a lot but I don't know there is something special in this song, I feel that this is her best song in her whole glorious singing career.

One of the finest songs of legendary Lataji. I am listening to this song to convey my condolences on her passing away just a few hours back. I am at complete loss of words…utterly depressed. Legends like her are born once in centuries and we are lucky that we have been blessed with her songs. She may have gone today but her voice will be immortal. May her soul RIP 🙏🏻

this song is based on raag 'dhaani' which although pentatonic (5 surs) , is a derivative of raag 'kaafi' , the sweetest melody our shastriya sangeet has given us .

+akhtar ali thank you so much for this valuable info...I've always been curious to know which raagas are used in the compositions of my favourite vintage filmi songs, especially since I have no training whatsoever in Hindustani sangeet...this is ultimately my favourite Lata solo composed by Hemant-da, followed by Dheere Dheere Machal from the same film, Humne Dekhi Hai from Khamoshi, Teri Yaad Mein Jalkar and Oonchi Oonchi Duniya Ke Deewarein from Nagin, Pyar Ki Dastaan from Faraar and Chhup Gaya Koi Re from Champakali...

@GabyPoulain
@GabyPoulain 8 жыл бұрын
+Pradeep Singh yes of course the songs from Kamal Amrohi's Razia Sultan are truly memorable and beautiful as well, but in my comment I was only discussing about Lata-ji's other solos composed by Hemant Kumar. I can indeed go on and on about her work with other composers/MDs, but here I was only talking about her artistic collaborations with the very composer/MD who gifted us this immortal classic. P/s 1. There is more than one song by Lata-ji in Razia Sultan, i.e. Ae Dil E Nadaan and Jalta Hai Badan, so which one were you referring to in your comment? 2. It's Khayyam, not Khayaal.

stanza "Aisi bhi baatein hoti hain" hits home different each time.. its just part of the song when sung first, but blends into the melody in the second verse. by the time lata ji repeats it the third (final) time in the song, I am already transported to things happening in my own life and reflecting on things said in the past that resonates with aisi bhi baatein hoti hain, waisi bhi baatein hoti hain.. this song has grown on me lately, my newest favourite song for life..

This HD Version of a b& w film Anupama (1966) has been enjoyed by over 8.3 million music lovers around the world till 12 years ago. Lata Mangeshkar had recorded this memorable song under music direction of Hemant Kumar. Poet Kaifee Azmi had compiled its lyric. Picturisation of this video sequence was done in Maha Baleshwar, a hill resort near Mumbai. Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee was a perfectionist.He asked all the crew members to get up at 5 A.M. for shooting this sequence early morning -- definitely before sunrise. Even a daily boozer like Dharminder had to obey this rigid discplinarian !

I do NOT understand why people are commenting on those who do NOT like this haunting, beautiful composition!!! Leave those people alone - they do not know what they are missing!!! I challenge them: show me any other comparable song!! BUT -- to me a very pertinent point is missing: the movie and the story behind Sharmila’s situation. AND ...... the VERY LAST scene........ father’s eyes!!!!! One of the best movies of ALL time!!!!
