Kuching back through time

Current photographs of Kuching matched with those taken up to 70 years ago. The old photographs taken by my father J.A. Kuek, have been restored to various degrees.
Part 2 will be released in December 2022.
Note on plagiarism: If you have seen any of the photos in this video before on the internet it is because some unscrupulous or at the very least ignorant person, lifted them of my Kuek family video ( • Family and Kuching thr... uploaded in 2020) and posted them on social media without the permission, or acknowledgement of J.A. Kuek, the owner of the photographs. Some of the lifted photos have been made into videos on KZbin, again without acknowledgment to J.A. Kuek or permission from him to use them. J.A. Kuek was the photographer and those photographs should be ascribed to him.

Thank you for your channel. I enjoyed it very much. Nice to see the comparison of the past and the present. The first time i set foot at Kuching was in 1972. At that time there were still alot of remnant colonial building such as bunglows for colonial masters at across river as it was name earlier (SeberangNegeri Kuching) before it was change to Petra Jaya. There were bunglows at Crookshank Road, Jalan Upland and OngTiang Swee Road. Nowadays only few bunglows left to give way for development.Sayang sekali and these bunglow were ingrave AD 1929 . I hope you have this pictures to share with us. Thank you.

Hi Edward, thank you kindly for your feedback. I grew up in the 60s at Batu Lintang and so used to have friends who lived in those government quarters along Ong Tiang Swee road which you mentioned. Later OBE of them moved across river and that quarters was demolished as it was on the grounds of the old DUN. No, I don’t have photos of those quarters. The old pics which are in the videos were taken by my father years ago. Parts 2 and 3 of “Kuching back in time” are now up on my channel.

Thank you brother. I attended Vocational School (Kolej) in 1972 till 1974 that is why i knew a little about Kuching. That sundry shop Goh Huat Seng is the place we bought stamps. The present Wisma Saberkas is the Godown of Lembaga Beras Negara. Opposite that shop accross the road is the Joo seng cafe which still exist today where the old man (apek) use to peddle to sell his very delicious Goreng Kutiaw. Now he had passed away.h The were plenty of govt quarters and flat at Batu Lintang at that time. Now only a memory of the past as the buildings have been demolish to give way for development. Good job. It brings back a lot of my childhood memory. Why not try some of the places such as GRSS and Pisang Road.

Thanks, Paul. My turn back time scenes have been determined by whatever photos I have of my Dad's (J.A. Kuek) from his days of photography. There is another set coming up in Part two which will be completed in December. As for GRSS and Pisang Rd, I will see what pics I might have myself or from friends (with copyright release) and see what can be done about doing a "then and now".
