I ,62-year-old, participated in the Kanto Regional Qualifiers for the All Japan Championship on September 8th. And I fought against a 20-year-old young samurai. Hope you like it!! #kudo #daidojuku #karate #karatekata #naihanchi

Your videos inspired me to go train in a martial art. No Kudo here, but I joined a Judo dojo. Thank you.

Please accept my profound respect, Shinji-san. You are a very tough nut to crack and your footwork as well as your application of kyo-jutsu is really something that's rarely seen. Great inspiration, but also a bit dangerously seductive for me. I am a bit older than you, stopped competing on the national amateur level somewhere in the 1980's, but just catching myself thinking about returning at least on the regional level after seeing your kumite videos. Not that I can even begin to offer your quality, but maybe the journey is the goal.

Thank you for your comment. Very honored. Budo is commonly translated as “martial arts”, but I believe this term fails to capture its full essence. In Japanese, “Bu(武)” means “battle” and “Do(道)” means “the way of life”. "The way" has the meaning that you have to keep walking. You must not let your age defeat you. No matter how old you are, you have to fight or you have to be able to fight. If you do the right training with the right method, that's possible. That's Budo. Even if it's just a little bit. Let's go ahead of ourselves, let's rise higher than we are now. Osu!!
