I hid a little bonus moment after the credits, but I suspect only one or two people ever sticks around that long. In an age of mechanical reproduction, it's kind of nice to imagine that you and I might be the only ones to see something. Obscurity still exists, in pockets here and there.

+The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows A while ago I had a suggestion which I really wanted to see given a word, and emailed to you because I thought that I had to have a Tumblr account to give you a suggestion using Tumblr. I was wondering if you'd seen it or not, and whether I should ask it again using Tumblr this time. It's pretty complicated, though, and I'm not too good at explaining feelings (that's why it needs a word, I do have trouble describing it) so it might be too long for a Tumblr message which has limited words/characters...

Watching the video and reading or just listening to the narrative are two completely different experiences. When I want or need to think about how this or that obscure sorrow has manifested itself, or is manifesting itself, in my own life, I need to look away from the videos and think about my life. The videos-- marvelous and beautiful-- are sort of distracting entertainment compared to being confronted with the reality of my own life as he verbally describes the feeling in question. Overall in the world in which we currently find ourselves, it's too easy to distract oneself from confronting the reality of one's existence with things that seem meaningful, but are actually just entertaining. Maybe he's got a word for that.
@jll2001so6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I never comment. I never figure that my comment is meaningful, or that I have any need to comment. But honestly, this needs to be a podcast series. Or, at the very least, needs to be much more well-known. This is what humans need - more commentary on the things we forget the most in life: sensations. And the words you bring to the internet brighten those experiences, and your speech gives them more life. Thank you for all of this, and continue to gift the scattered and interconnected world with more wanderlust.

i feel like most of us *me included* keep waiting for The Event. something to happen that will trigger you into pursuing those dreams and fulfill them, something that will push us out of our comfort zones and throw us into the world. i mean, everyone has that deep buried feeling that they are destined for greatness and their reason for being born is to achieve something that will leave a mark on this earth. but first the event has to happen. and that's the trap. for a large majority, that "event" is just a lie we tell to comfort ourselves, that there's still hope for us, in the future, to achieve everything we ever dreamed of.

This is so fucking depressing. Many dreams have come and gone in my mere 25 years of life. I worry about dreaming itself, these days. Is there any dream I can have with a somewhat realistic chance of attaining it, some day? I worry about the time I have to reach that point, and what little time I might have left at that point to enjoy it before I die. Even little dreams for normal things seem to take a long time to chase after, but all I can do is to keep dreaming, in order to pull myself through those times.

when you look in the mirror and are surprised at who stares back at you. Wondering who it and where they've come from. What does it mean for you. Do you still exist or have you been replaced by this new being who you can only hope is better than who you used to be. You start looking back, trying to pinpoint when this change occurred, the cause of it, only to be consumed by the vast amount of little things that seem so profound now. You wonder why you realized only now, staring into your new reflection, how much you've changed from where you were. As the days go by you try to hold on to the feeling of awe at your reflection but as the minutes tick on and the days go past the feeling fades, until you become your reflection and can no longer see the differnce

The language is simply a tool in an art form, the rules and strict forms of poetry and literature disgust me. Connotation IS denotation, its not a separate existence. I have watched every one of your videos and every time I am not at all disappointed, they're always so in depth and meaningful. Do you think you could do a video, and make a word about the feeling you get when you visit a ghost town, and you just take the time to think about the way the people that must have loved and all the generations that grew up there, now it's all gone. I'm not sure if you've ever felt that feeling but it's definitely somewhat depressing. I just don't know how to accurately describe it.
