I can't believe that where still using the XPT after 42 years, should be in a museum together with the other relics.

The public buses in Canberra are from the 80s as well. Old Renault diesel pollution bombs banned in Europe back in the 2000s. And they have stickers: Transport Canberra brings you clean buses.😂
@TheNakedWombat9 күн бұрын
The XPT will be released. They're here. They just have to go through safety checks etc. The replacement is taking longer than expected because the previous NSW Government chose to order trains from overseas instead of relying on locally designed and built trains which would have enabled the Government and Union to maintain quality controls. The conservate LNP Government went for the cheap option, causing budget blowouts on new trains, buses, ferries and trams.

I haven't done Syd to Bris on a train since the late 80's. Back then people would bring cartons or 6 packs of beer onboard and the conductors would turn a blind eye as long as they went to the rear most carriage (and didn't try to move forward again once drunk or rowdy). That rearmost car was a sight to behold though, you would have to step over people passed out in the aisle.

The reason why there's no direct train from Sydney to is due to difference width of track in different states. Meaning a train would have to change all it's wheels to make it all the way to Cairns, so a break in journey was the only way.

QueenslandRail sleeper seats are quite nice for solo travellers and the meals lookes like airline service. I will try if I travel to Australia. Thanks for information.
@Gary-vv5gtАй бұрын
To explain of “why this train arrive at 4am or some ungodly hour” it’s because QR has a separate gauge track to NSW and only 1 track in the qld system which NSW train can use but that also dual gauge which QR rail also uses for their peak hour service and they want the xpt to get out of qld before 5am so that why the xpt has to arrive at 4am and depart back to Sydney at 5am). Also explains of why there’s no overnighter from brissy to Sydney. You would have to get a coach to casino in NSW to do the overnighter. Likewise for day trip from syd to brissy. I’m sure if is wasn’t the qr douchbagery they would make the arrival time and departure more reasonable and also do a second service (of reverse timing) as well without terminating at casino.
@elizabethz7491Ай бұрын
It’s so ridiculous really. And I am also upset the. XPT replacement won’t have sleepers. Big mistake.

I have been a contract engineer since 1975, Constructing sewage and water treatment plants from Melbourne to Cairns. I have enjoyed every minute of my life.
