Had my guide since they first came out its extremely durable, I slid down many dead fall trees on my ass in Montana with not a single rip. First time I wore my $700 Sitka Blizzard parka I poked a hole in it within three minutes on a horse and branch. The Kuiu Guide jacket and pants since 2012 no marks from extreme hunting at all. Im sure this Axis is very nice also. I am thankful for Kuiu hunting clothes.

I bought the Axis jacket & pants and they are made way better then any hunting clothing then I ever had. They are a little noisy when going through brush when your trying to be quiet.

I was very disappointed also in the wind resistance. None what’s so ever. Just got the axis so fingers crossed. A little surprised that they are almost exactly the same. These are the first high end money wise hunting clothing I’ve paid for. Just not sold on money price for what it is as far as the guide. If the axis can stop the wind then it’s exactly what I was looking for

I got the guide pant and jacket for a late November hunt in NM. The guide series is much baggier than other Kuiu gear. The various Kuiu lines all seem to fit differently. As for warmth or wind resistance, I agree with your son, the guide series Sucks!!! It doesn’t stop the wind at all, and wind chill factor makes a big difference at any temp. After freezing my ass off because of cold weather, 8° to 40°, with wind blowing 15-20 mph. I layered up in all Kuiu gear; base ultra merino 145, peloton 97, guide vest, and guide jacket. When I got back I called Kuiu to complain about the wind resistance of the guide series and they told me I was wearing it wrong!! The temp range is from 30° to 50°, and I should of had a insulation layer under the jacket. Well, BS. I do not recommend the guide series at all. You can hold the piece up to the light and see right through it. It’s thin and doesn’t provide much warmth or any wind resistance!! I am extremely hesitant to buy the axis line just to see if it might block the wind, yet be some what breathable. Now there’s the new axis thermal hybrid, but I’m concerned about how noisy it is. Then there’s the new Wind Pro, Polar Fleece gear, but how much crap will stick to the nappy fleece? This is very expensive gear to be buying just to try out. I have Guide Gear buyers remorse for sure.

The guide and Axis are very different products in wind and rain, But I would say if no wind the warmth and insulating difference between the 2 is not that different
@nmhvactech5474 Жыл бұрын
I’m not buying anymore of the Guide line. Now I’m looking at the Axis Thermal or the Wind Pro Fleece. It sucks when you have to spend that much on camo, just to find out how it fits or if the materials really are what your looking for. Also Kuiu doesn’t do exchanges, but requires returns, and reorder. So, if the sale is no longer going, you might get screwed. It’s happened to me a couple of times.

Great review, I’m looking for a jacket to cope with the weather in the UK 🇬🇧 and in my search came across the Axis. Do you think it would cope with our wetter climate? Or should I look at a waterproof jacket, I will be using it for fishing and walking.

Tony Jones After spending almost 2 weeks in Scotland Highlands back in the 90s wearing a wool sweater and an oils skin with that every day drizzle and rain. I believe it should work perfectly.

So is this just an over priced sweatshirt. Just got it as a gift by choice. Need to return for sizing but just getting a little buyers remorse. Really wanted a lighter jacket for, well exactly what it say wind/rain resistant. Had in mind to layer for colder conditions but hiking around didn't want anything.to heavy to sweat in. What to do
@strixoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. I've run the Guide DCS for years and noticed the same about wind resistance and waterproofing is ok but not suitable for real rain events. I'm debating upgrading to the Axis Hybrid jacket or getting the Kutana Storm shell for those wet elk hunting days. Do you think the Axis has enough waterproofing resilience to keep me dry in a moderate rain with a pack on? I also find that if you're wearing a pack, the water gets pushed through fabric on DWR treated materials by the straps a lot faster than it would naturally eventually wet through.
@rhinogames98564 жыл бұрын
I think it will keep u fairly dry. The Kutana Rain jacket is sweet as well
@strixoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
@@rhinogames9856 Thanks. The Kutana Storm shell is awesome. I tried on a friend's jacket this year and it fit exceptionally well. Was trying to minimize gear by replacing my DCS guide jacket + rain jacket with just the Axis Hybrid but I think I'll just get the Kutana for now and maybe consider upgrading the DCS jacket later. I've been wearing the DCS jacket for 5 or 6 years now I think. It's had a good run.

Great vid, I’ve been hesitant to get the axis thinking it would be noisy but doesn’t sound too bad at all. Are the waterproof panels like the chugach or the Yukon?
@rhinogames98564 жыл бұрын
The panels seem to be quite water proof I stood in the shower for some time. The non water proof panels do quite well as well. This would not replace rain gear in bad weather but in a light rain or off and on rain I believe it would be the ticket

Any fit difference in the Guide and Axis. Tried the Axis on and it seemed more performance fit. Is the Guide Jacket more standard fit or performance fit (tight)? Also, were the sizes off at all - I wear a XXL, but when I tried the Axis, I needed a XXL. SUper thanks for vetting these.

I have the kuiu guide pants and I archery hunt. The durability in the guide pants was very disappointing compared to my Sikia pants. Would you say that the axis pants are more durability then the guide pants.
@rhinogames98564 жыл бұрын
Jason Punisher I have. It had the chance to put them thru their paces for durability. In general I am not very hard on my gear since I’m primarily in N Mich. looking at the makeup up the fabric I would conclude durability will be about the same as the guide. Maybe slightly better

Scott Carr I would wear it but probably with a light Merino base. I wore mine off and on last Saturday she’s hunting 50 out primarily to protect my arms thru brush. I had it off and on throughout the day.
