i agree! but just to clear it up, china doesnt have anything against dark-skinned people! its just a part of their beauty standards which is common across all of east asia. in ancient times, having tanned skin meant that you were from a poor family because you had to work outside under the sun which is where this beauty standard is from. i hope that no one thinks china hates dark-skinned people or anything 🥰

When this first aired I watched this bec it was a remake to the Thai drama I like and at first didn’t realize it was Guan Lin playing. I see lots of comments on her tanned skin tone now vs. pale skin later as a standard of beauty; same with curly hair vs. straight. Another cliché is the glasses. The second they change to contact lenses they become "beautiful". However, I find that the most dramatic change for Miao Miao was her TEETH. Later on when Liang You Nian says that the first time he met her he thought she was "adorable and kind", I had to come back to this first episode to see the "adorable" part...
