Kulintang, Agung, and Dabakan of the Maranao - Kalilang Ensemble in Tugaya

A gong and drum ensemble from the old town of Tugaya - a UNESCO Home for Culture and Heritage. The instruments themselves were locally made; the products of a rich local tradition of brass work and okir wood carvings. I even had the opportunity to join the music with an agung!
It was such a wonderful experience to join the first archaeological exploration of Lanao del Sur (August 21 to 26, 2023)! We have plenty to learn from these beautiful lands around Lanao lake!
