Thanks for the recommendations Terry. Your Saturday is Friday afternoon (5:47 PM) here in Nova Scotia - small world, big planet. Now I've got a lot of homework and I found a copy of Cast a Deadly Spell. It's a hard life but someone's got to do this work.

I highly recommend you to check out The Wandering Earth 2 (2023) when it's available for home video, which is a prequel, and IMO a massive upgrade from the first movie, explored some very interesting theme and idea, visually also grander. I think The Wandering Earth 2 is probably the highest standard of East Asian film industry, definitely on par with Hollywood production.

I saw The Wandering Earth in cinema. Definitely going to see the second one.

Thank you ever so much for these hidden gems. I love science fiction and particularly love to see its standard tropes examined by different cultures. Pleas keep it up as you have better suggestions than any of the algorithms my other services use.
@terrytalksmovies Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Those algorithms are woefully bad at picking eclectic cinema.

Great new format. Terry you are the best reviewer I have seen on KZbin. I watched part of a review by a thirty something man whose entire vocabulary was f... this sh.. I would have no respect for his opinion. Then I watched a review by another millennial that cared more about his hair than the movies.

I'm not going to diss any other reviewers. We're all on our own paths and I hope they become better at what they do. Having said that, I appreciate your vote of confidence in the channel, max.

Have you heard of a movie with the English language title of "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK"? Your reviews reminded me of it. If you have seen it, what do you think of it? Somehow, I saw it on cable years, but I had to leave before the ending or maybe I just don't remember the end. Admittedly, this is only a comedy with a person who thinks she is a Science Fiction character.
@terrytalksmovies Жыл бұрын
I have the movie on blu-ray. Park Chan-Wook is a masterful director and with I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK, he's playful as hell.

Terry, for your Science Fiction Saturdays please watch give us your thoughts on THX1138. Be sure to watch the original theatrical version and the directors cut. THX1138 is in my top five SF movies but the directors cut has some things in it that really changed my feelings about the movie.
@terrytalksmovies Жыл бұрын
I don't much like the film. Sorry.
@Nedski42YT Жыл бұрын
@@terrytalksmovies Thanks. Was there any one thing that ruins it for you, such as the slow pacing or the minimal dialog? I did not like the Directors Cut. Lucas mucked up lots of scenes with his (Ha, I laugh) "improvements." I really thought Donald Pleasence gave a stellar performance.

one film or short story I saw 40 years or more ago. Not sure if it was english usa 1950s 1960s. Very Alien looking creatures. A man lies in a hospital bed, has a bedside light projected onto a wall. There are transparent Amoeba typ creatures projected onto the wall. They are talking to him, asking him to join them, a nurse comes into the ward and knocks the light to one side, so the images of the creatures are lost. Later on he has an ear operation and can't hear them any more and goes back to his wife. I have never seen it since and can't remember what it is called.

Got all 3 of these on Netflix here in the States. Is Australia very Asian leaning since they are your neighbors? I just bought Criterion's Ingmar Bergman Blu-Ray box set, 39 (!!) films. Going to get nice and depressed.
@terrytalksmovies Жыл бұрын
You can always watch Smiles On A Summer Night to cure the depression. It's my favourite Bergman. We have a substantial Asian Australian population from many countries so our Netflix gets the good stuff. We also get some great Indian cinema, too.
