Thank you for this video! As a proud Syrian hamster owner, I am a passionate advocate for small animals. Biggest myth- hamsters are not a kids’ toy. They are a little soul that deserves the best care possible. No one would put a human in a closet to live, just because hampters are small that does not equal small home. Hamsters need large enclosures and a large wheel is a must. Love to everyone ♥️🙏

The enclosure entirely depends on how much time the hamster spends outside of the cage though. It also depends on the animal’s preferences as well. Not every animal is the same. There are many things involved with deciding on a cage.

I m an hamster breeder since 2006, they are so lovely. Few more myths: - yellow teeth means disease? NO white teeth for hamster is a problem!!! - Breeded hamster can be handled by anyone? NO, hamsters normally recognize the smell of no more than 2-3 people in their entire life. So be careful, your super docile hamster can bite your little cousin
@letsdostuff8967 Жыл бұрын
Although some hamsters are just angels in disguise. My hamster named Ham was like that. She would cuddle up and sleep with me. She only bit me once. It was because she was quite old and her digestive system was slowing down. This caused a buildup of painful gas. The vet sorted it all out. She didn't even bite the vet while they were poking and proding her. She was so tired though and slept on my lap the whole way home (I wasn't driving and our house was about 30 minutes away). Miss her. Little angel.

Hey! ALL animals that encounter humans get treated wrong :( We seriously need more ways of getting information to everybody whether they like animals or not. I think ppl don't realize that karma exists and just how hilariously awesome it can be even if it's bad karma. You know what karma is, right? There is always going to be someone that doesn't know something but nobody will know everything but can know everything in one thing or another. Crazy, right? I love learning even though it hurts sometimes but the pain of everything will never go away so you might as well confront it instead of avoiding it. Good luck m8

The biggest myth by far is that they make a great and easy starter pet (especially for kids). These little floofballs might look small, but they need a lot of (expensive) attention and care at hours that are mostly not suitable for kids....
@zanib.2792 жыл бұрын
To be honest, no animal is an easy starter pet for kids. Every single animal needs maintenance and work which the kids will never do even if they promised you they would. Unless you really want a pet too, don't get one for your kids. My honest thoughts.
@burntbeansoup Жыл бұрын
@@zanib.279 Exactly. I think maybe a child could HELP care for a large animal, like a dog or cat. This means feeding them sometimes and playing with them. But under no circumstances should a child under 13 be the sole caretaker of a pet, and I think any child under 18 should get financial help from their parents to care for it, at least for vet visits.

When I was a kid I had this one hamster and I realised it was wrong to have a small bar cage. So I told my mum and we just didn't get one. But he did have a big play pen.He lasted until two years of age and got put down because he became sick. Now I own a hamster by my own she is well cared for and spoilt rotten. She is happy and I really feel guilty about my first hamster. Always get lots of correct information before getting a pet ❤

So cute, simple and understandable :) One thing I would like to reach out is that with the direct proper hamster care it will be very very costly and very high maintenance. I highly do no recommend parents buying a hamster for their kids because their too many things to consider. It is not just now but also their life journey :)
@youareme1515 Жыл бұрын
I properly care for my animals and they are very inexpensive lol and definitely not high maintenance. The personalities of your animals must be quite interesting, haha. Because that’s definitely what anything depends on. Food is the only thing I need to buy frequently. Their toys and what not keep very well, because they they take care of them. I’ve never had to take a hamster to the vet, because my babies have all been very healthy.
@HammyCraft2 жыл бұрын
We really need to do away with the stigma that hamsters are "children's pets" when in reality hammies are just like owning a cat or dog, they require good healthcare, a good diet and plenty of exercise and enrichment and it's ultimately the adult (parent) that is responsible for their well-being, not the minor. So often pet stores market hamster products with bright colors and make toy-like cages and accessories to entice kids and they sell hamsters at a low price making you think they are cheap. This only adds to the problem of improper care. Thank you for busting these myths and helping others understand what hammies really need to thrive🐹❤
@elizabethchristineyuanitam4638 Жыл бұрын
The myth about hamster bites that some people say can bring disease is the biggest myth. But in fact, hamsters are actually very clean animals. Almost every day my hamster of the Winter White type really likes to clean himself. Including his teeth. I get bitten by my hamster a lot because I used to have a WW hamster that was really mean. Bite until it bleeds. But be safe. You only need to wash the wound in running water, not because hamster bites are dangerous, but bacteria or viruses from the air can enter through the wound. And sometimes hamsters like to invite us to play by biting our fingers without any injuries. It was the same as when he scratched his body with his teeth.

Happy New Year to all at KumaQQ, and a big thank you from our household for fun, bright, educational and informative videos every time, you have done a fantastic job here of busting some longstanding myths especially the fact that they may get lonely, so if even one hamster gets a better chance after an owner seeing this, that's just wonderful.....and even my confirmed rodent disliking housemate is now involved and can't get enough of my hamsters and their antics. Best wishes and thanks for every video from a crazy hammy fan in London ❤❤🐹🐹

Another big myth is that hamsters are "compact" or low-space animals. Hamsters need minimum 450sq in. of space (according to the US standard), although 600+sq inches is highly recommended. If your enclosure can fit on your desk, its likely way too small.
@youareme1515 Жыл бұрын
That will depend on whether your hamster stays in its cage all the time or not. And what it’s preferences are. I have two hamster and they are polar opposites of each other. The one likes a big house, while the other is nice and satisfied with a smaller cage.

It's so true! Hamsters are not for children! Both sides can get hurt easily, especially the little hammy might be scared all the time because many kids are just too loud (shouting, crying etc.). Treasure your hampters and please give them a beautiful life ❤❤❤ Thank you for this video KUMA !

Thank you for making this video. Not enough people are educated about them before getting one. Although i would take caution with the sand bathes and Syrian hamsters. Almost every Syrian I've had just wants to eat the sand. So, make sure to watch them the first few times. If they eat it after multiple tries (like 3-4) I tend to give up.

Improper breeding is why we have things like brachycephalic syrians and lethal white. I own a brachy syrian, and it is somewhat cost and labor intensive having to make him a custom soft food diet and keep his enclosure more deep cleaned than you typically would to help his breathing. Even though he is seemingly stress free, no hamster deserves a life like that.

When I was 8, a friend had two hamsters in a tiny wire cage enclosure. Somehow even though it was a male and a female, they never bred, never fought and lived a pretty decent time. But every time I recall seeing the two in that small cage I cringe and I wonder how anyone can allow a living creature to live in such a tiny space. Also, my sister once got the class hamster for the weekend when she was like 12 and I was 6. We had dogs, so we decided the best way to keep it safe was to leave it in its cage in the bathroom with the door closed. Somehow it got out and got into the toilet and drowned. We still have no idea how it did it. But seriously, who ever thought a tiny creature like that would be a good pet for a child?
