In 'most' Indian languages, curry is instead called tari or ras-sa, e.g., alu/gobhi/etc., ka ras-sa or raswali sabji. Therefore, vegetables that can be cooked in a ras-sa or tari also called tarkaari. One may say-what about fish curry then? Mind you fish itself is English word, so the Indian name for this preparation would not be this one but another in the local languages. While kadhi is only the besan/dahi/chhaas based preparation. A "curry" based vegetable prep. is a Western mind trying to keep things simple and understandable for themselves.
