Roman Wairegi's songs were popularized in the mid sixties by the great ( late)Daniel Gatei in the then Kenya Broadcasting Service. I believe the songs were produced in the early sixties and regularly played in the Kikuyu vernacular service, but Daniel nevertheless still played them in the English (General) service whenever he hosted the morning music shows. This was 1968 through the early seventies, and after the sad demise of Gatei, the songs were still being featured regularly by Josphat Ngigi in the evening Sundowner show in the English service. This music, and lots more great yesteryear music is still lying dormant in the archives of the KBC. The youthful staff now manning the stations are too young and too ignorant of anything past the last five or six years. Unless KBC or another radio station makes deliberate efforts to bring in a few older broadcasters, these golden treasures will be forgotten and lost forever. Our radio broadcast managers should learn something from countries such as Britain (BBC) and USA where radio stations take deliberate action to serve and entertain listeners of ALL ages by employing and retaining staff who represent both young and older listeners.

I agreed. In KBC music archives lie treasures that may never be rediscovered.
