I really like what you said "it's up to the martial artist".....I preach that all the time! You can't blame a style or an instructor....blaming is negative, and you immediately forfeit responsibility for your own development. ALL martial arts work, we have to test and modify, study, and keep growing......i always have resisting partners.....otherwise, it's just dance. Great vid sir, keep up the good work.

"it's up to the martial artist" is WRONG!!!! There is no need to compare you and the others. Compare you with you. You need to ask yourself what martial art will make you better at the same amount of time and effort.

People who say "don't blame the style" are universally people in shitty styles. I hate to say it, but all styles are not created equal. Some produce consistent results, and some don't. If you had to bet a million dollars on a fight between 1,000 Muay Thai fighters and 1,000 Tai Chi fighters, where would you put your money?

I love how literally every TMA guy on earth brags about how they know this bouncer that uses their style in real life all the time. First off, that's a hilariously feeble thing to brag about. Oh, so your style works really well when your enemy is drunk, untrained, emotional, smaller than you, and outnumbered? AWESOME. Can he wristlock a granny too? Second, you have to wonder why all these bouncers are risking their personal safety dabbling with kung fu nerve pinches when they could just take a real grappling style like Judo/BJJ/wrestling and completely cut out the "experimentation" phase altogether. Just seems odd that you wouldn't extensively crosstrain in stuff that's been proven to work and dabble in the gimmicky shit after you have a solid foundation.

@@LAVATORR LOL First of all, Judo and Jiu Jitsu are TMA as well.... Secondly, There's a difference between self defense/street fights and tournament fights, as they have rules and limitation. Ppl don't want to get injured when they do demonstrations, just like MMA guys when they train and spar. I think u r just a narrow minded individual that only believes in UFC and WWE.
@LAVATORR
@LAVATORR 3 жыл бұрын
@@tonypeterson5316 1) Yeah, everybody knows that. The designation "TMA" is more of a politically correct way of informally lumping together arts that...well, just aren't that essential. The ones you can just ignore. The ones notorious for dead patterns, unrealistic techniques, and a disinterest in competition or tangible improvement. So most forms of karate, kung fu, Aikido, etc. 2) Oh boy, this old chestnut. Haven't heard this argument in the past 36 minutes. I'll give you the bullet points: --MMA isn't a style, it's a results-based methodology based on real-world data. It's not guesswork and it's not an ideology. It's about what works and what doesn't. --We didn't settle on the BJJ/boxing/Muay Thai/wrestling/Judo cluster for political or religious reasons, we did it because those arts consistently produce the best results in the real world. --"I train for THE STREET" is sort of a universal punchline because most of the people who say this actually do way less sparring and with way more rules. --The differences between "self-defense" training and "MMA" training aren't that significant. 99% of what you see in MMA is extremely effective on THE STREET. --Groin strikes and eye gouges are colossally overrated. Striking the balls is harder than it looks due to variations in clothing and men's natural desire to protect their dicks. And because it relies on pain compliance, a man experiencing an adrenaline dump may not actually feel the pain until after the fight. Eye gouges....look, if you can't hit me with a weapon as big as your fist at a target as big as my face, what makes you think you can hit me with a weapon as small as your finger at a target as small as my eye?

Sifu, you seem to be really good at bringing out the practical applications from forms. I have a request that I think will get some serious buzz going in the whole MA community. Something I've wanted to do for a long time myself but I don't have the background in Chinese martial arts you do... There is an obscure style known as gou quan or "dog boxing" which is known for it's qin na (grappling) sacrifice moves (throwing your bodyweight) and ground fighting. Because BJJ is so huge right now, people go nuts for ground game, but hardly anyone knows there's a traditional Chinese art that specializes in this. If you could tease out a handful of practical techniques from dog boxing and show them applied under pressure with active resistance it would be sensational! I'm sure you'd get a *lot* of people to reconsider their opinions of Chinese martial arts that way.

I too have read about dog Kung fu. It seemed like a good style ground wise etc. Awesome I think it's obscure. Paper. Rock. Scissors. Strikes are countered with wrestling , wrestling countered by chin na. Then strikes to beat chin na ..... If u can... I learned northern mantis and taichi yang style. Does anyone know a place like this, where you do forms and learn to work each technique. In Orlando FL. It's going wushu with how freesparring is like kickboxing... No making you fight with form moves. Throws takedowns no. Exchange blows then whistle stop whistle go. Youd have 4 forms done yet never did I see any mantis. I had MMA gloves vs boxing gloves. I would try to make sure to use mantis. Nope, just better footwork, you'd get hit or block and revert to closing in for headlock or rear choke. Headlock pound them to it's on ground. Whistle at trying if u were stupid. All about forms and practicing them vs muscle memory a form technique, just chin na partners, Tai chi had no martial applications practiced except pushing hands drill.Not tried The forms were meant to be easy ways to pass an armory of moves to students and back then a lot were illiterate. Also you might naturally be built height or muscles different so all moves might not be able to be put into your personal style. Do not fear the man that knows 10,000 different kicks fear the man that practice one kick 10000 tmes

My first school was too gentle and I was always doubting the effectiveness of certain things. It wasn't until I met a powerful and rowdy Sifu that I was able to understand how easily strikes can stun someone and how much force I can take before the pain is too much. Plus, it allows us to advance to much faster and harder training which gives me the confidence that I can work against full power punches. Great video! Love your channel, keep it up!

Yes, they do work and so are the striking moves. Problem nowadays is most wushu & kungfu groups don't bother to train grappling just because it's not included in grading test nor competition. Same thing with actual kungfu full contact sparring that was abandoned. The actual lei tai match was replaced with sanshou/sanda regulation removing ground and low level fight. Also the use of bulky boxing gloves cut down hand techniques to just few basic punches & blocks. Bruce Lee brought the actual lei tai rules to America and it was relabelled as mma using simplified strikes and grappling. Credits all gone to mma. It's Great that you still train kungfu fighting. Over here, Chinese don't bother to train anymore saying kungfu is just for exercise and health or better use guns when none of them have guns at all. None of them wanted to train fighting, accuracy, grappling, strength for real. Thanks for your effort.

Yes you are right, we have to restore it... Actually other guys are simply to stupid to see their own mistakes and to work on it, then gettting frustrated and learn muay thai or sanda... I thought I was the only one to train it in a not stupid way but now I realize there are more awesome guys who do that... So at this point I argue in favour for building an alliance of guys who restore missing knowledge... So I for myself have knowledge in building a kung fu fighting structure and in understanding what kung fu stances really are... and know what?! No it aren´t stances! Feel free to ask^^ I had a great video but had to take it out because of school internal conflicts...

I have a problem with pain compliance techniques. Any violent aggressor is high on adrenaline and pain compliance usually does not work.
@RKmndo
@RKmndo 9 ай бұрын
I worked as a bouncer and encountered such. Many locks still immobilize somewhat, or buy time. If you have a hold on somebody, you are often still able to use the hold to unbalance them if the pain compliance isn't as effective as you'd like. Some locks/holds are also not strictly "pain compliance". They can also reduce the amount of force/leverage that an opponent can bring to bear. It's generally not as easy to put full power into a right hook when you're falling from being thrown/swept, or when your left arm is barred. A grip is generally not as strong if the wrist is uncomfortably cranked. Competitive wrestlers restrain people, and they aren't allowed to use "pain compliance" techniques in competition.
