I adore the king fu panda trilogy, have all three on blu-ray and have never regretted the purchase. Just all the quotable lines from the trilogy, the quality of each story, the unexpected and genuine humor. “There is no secret ingredient.” Will always keep me going.

Another thing to consider is the journey of Po from novice to enlightened master. He begin at the bottom, and is fundamentally in a position of disrespect not only from those around him but to himself. By the end of the third movie, he is finally able to take the highest position of respect as a teacher. In Chinese culture, the position of teacher is a position of respect and regard. So Po's journey from disrespected student to enlightened teacher/master also ties the three movies together.

While Kung Fu Panda 2 is unquestionably my favorite of the bunch, the first movie still reserves a special place in my heart. I remember seeing it not too long after it came out and being surprised by how good it was despite the silly premise. The story, the gorgeous animation (which still holds up today!), the character designs, the way martial arts was translated into unique styles that suited each character's body type, and the way the comedy was balanced with the serious bits in that neither detracted from the other. However, an aspect I don't hear about from many reviewers is how good of a _kids' movie_ it is. What a wonderful message to leave to kids and students everywhere that the reason they're not excelling (whether it be school or a skill) ISN'T because they're dumb or untalented. Maybe they've gone through their lives believing that like Po, they were just kind of bumbling and average, and maybe they've resigned to thinking they could never be anything more than that because of some flaw or the way they were born. But this movie tells them that hey, maybe that's not their fault. Maybe the problem isn't them, just that no one has paid them the proper attention and helped them learn in a way that gets through to them and takes their situation and personality into account. What struggling students and children everywhere need isn't punishment or ridicule, but for a guiding figure to get to know them and figure out how to motivate them into bettering themselves, and to teach them in a way that matches how they learn, because every child learns differently. Shi Fu couldn't train Po the same way he trained the Furious Five, and it frustrated him. He thought Po was hopeless and just not meant for Kung Fu... until he saw what Po was capable of when no one was looking. Then, he figured out that the seeds were already there, Po just needed a master who would render Kung Fu in a nature he could understand. In this case, the way to get through to Po was with food. His bottomless appetite was portrayed alternatingly for gags and as something to ridicule him for, the reason why he couldn't muster the discipline worthy of a kung fu master... but then it turned out to be the perfect basis for his training. Instead of seeing his panda-ness as a hindrance to being a kung fu master, Po learned to accept who he is and all his quirks, and build out his own style of kung fu from there. Another cool detail to note is that Po being a mega-fanboy of kung fu and masters who practiced it didn't give him a huge edge in actually learning it himself, he had to start from the bottom up and carve out his own path. It implies (correctly) that being booksmart doesn't necessarily translate to skill, which is yet another nice thing for kids to learn. Overall, Kung Fu Panda is a good movie, and even more importantly, a good kids' movie with messages that many kids need to hear and I'm glad they're getting it. The sequels have good messages too, especially for kids with adoptive families (in the case of 2) and kids in blended families (in the case of 3), but for me nothing beats Po's journey to master kung fu in the first movie and how it works as an allegory for students with different learning styles who struggle in institutions with a alienating degree of standardization and a hostile dose of orthodoxy.

I remember seeing a tease for the first movie and immediately writing it off. I was in my teens and very much cynical of animated movies, especially Dreamworks because they were all Shrek rip offs. Then I saw the movie when I was watching my baby cousins and ... it was good. I went and bought my own copy, watched it, rewatched, rewatched it with the commentary and watched all the bonus features. There just so much love and heart. And I got it again when I saw the second the movie. The third movie and the some of the series I watched, fittingly, when I was caring for kids. So yeah, I really like these movies.

The original Kung Fu Panda is a triumph of grassroots film-making. Nobody in the management level gave a damn and it was just going to be a film to be released "because Disney/Pixar was releasing a film, and Dreamworks needed something to compete". Fortunately, a whole punch of people on the production end saw its potential and actively campaigned (and worked their butts off) to elevate it beyond the succession of fat and fart jokes it was originally going to be.

Actually, The Kung Fu Panda Shows aren't interquels to Kung Fu Panda 3. The first show (Legends of Awesomeness) takes place after the first movie, but before the second movie. While the second show (Paws of Destiny) takes place after Kung Fu Panda 3.

I'm convinced the 3rd movie was all of the '"upcoming"' 4 movies in one. With possibly every movie having a villain but with a grander story alluded to behind it. Probably the characters like Tigress could had been explored more (she is theorized to be a princess) but to be honest I wouldn't have this franchise any other way but a trilogy.

Fun fact: Master Oogway should also be called Sifu, as he is also one of the teachers for the 5, and sifu, when translated to English means teacher. Actually the teachers irk go be Sifu and then there name.

I agree with you. I do think Kung Fu Panda 2 is the strongest movie in the trilogy, and the first movie is second-best and the third one is the weakest. The animation is beautiful and the story has heart, but unlike How to Train Your Dragon trilogy (which I felt got stronger and more beautiful with each movie and really stuck the landing with the third movie and where it went with the characters and story) I feel like KFP 3 wobbled a bit on the ending. I thought the villain was SILLY (especially after Lord Shen). I liked the thought of Po meeting his family, but I feel like it could have been done more creatively. It just seemed a bit.....CONVENIENT that his father just HAPPENED to find Po at the first restaurant he stopped at. It could have done better.

Planet of the Apes reboot/prequels! The Clint Eastwood Dollars trilogy I hope your tweet about a collaboration with Andre Meadows for the Ninja Turtles trilogy wasn’t a joke Back to the Future Mad Max, that should be interesting since it’s basically an anthology and each can be viewed independently Predator maybe? I don’t know if Predators was meant to be a possible trilogy end. I’d like to hear your take on how it would’ve been different if Laurence Fishburne was Danny Glover returning as Harrigan as they had originally planned The first 3 Saw movies. That should be fun

I owe you an apology I went on a rant in your how to train a dragon video about the thread the explanation in this video does fit the true meaning of a proper thread in a proper trilogy each movie expanding based on ideas that were credited in the first film. How to train your dragon deviates enough for the sake of creating threads later than answering questions from the first. if the light fury came from another hive mind like the first film that was controlled by the hunter that would have been an interesting thread.

Personally, I think the 2nd and 3rd are the only good movies in the trilogy. I never saw a bigger gap in quality between a bad movie and it's great sequel until suicide squad and birds of prey. I think of 3 as subverting the content of 1 so much bc the makers kind of new aspects of one didn't quite work, that's why the finger hold goes from a deus ex machina to a smaller twist.
@lordshenfan66252 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with 1?
@lucario7192 жыл бұрын
@@lordshenfan6625 the ending being complete deus ex machina. and the dragon scroll twist undermining the tension of the final fight. Tai Lung is basically fighting for nothing and the only reason po doesn't just give him the scroll or tell him it's blank is bc the script says so. they also could have done a better job of establishing the ways po uses his own po stlye of fighting to win in a fight without a random supermove. the later 2 movies give po the supermoves bc of internal/thematic acomplishments (inner peace, finding family and identity), shifu just tried to murder po with the finger hold in one, and he somehow learned it despite it only being partially used on him.
