According to Ark Wong the right fist against the left palm is the Monk's fighting salute. The non-fighting salute is both hands together in a prayer manner. The traditional Shao Lin Salute is the left hand covering the right fist kind of like a roof on a temple.

Thank you for the detailed breakdown I found the part about the meaning behind it all very interesting. In my Wing Tsun class we do bend at the waist to Grandmaster IP Man and Sijo Leung Ting but curl our hands around a fist when paying respects to each other. I'll straighten the hand and round the arms, going forward.

In Asian culture and tradition we bend our waist to show respect to the elder, if we are the same age or to the junior we didn't bend our waist. Like Japanese bow, the degree of the waist bend show how much respect we have to the elder.

Yes! Return to the glory of the Ming Dynasty. Right hand is Sun and left is the Moon. Together they form Ming aka "bright".
