Mine arrived with the transformer totally free and rattling around. The mounting screws had vibrated out, or were never tightened. Detecting no damage to other components or wiring, I straightened the mounting lugs, secured the transformer with better bolts and everything seems to be fine.

One of the best reviews of the Kunkin load! The current error in the Kunkin seems to be only on low levels like from 0...3 A - it levels out at higher amperage. This is not too astonishing for a 40A electronic load. So quite accurate device and capable of handling really 400W it seems.

Let me know how you get on with the comparitor. I have found it very useful but be sure to use the correct value for the response capacitor. The assembly guide gives some basic guidelines. I have some very interesting projects coming up this year.

Hi Jerry Great Video very informative thank you for sharing Correct me if i am wrong but the temperature on the alternating display is for the external probe you are measuring power supply temperature with which is good idea, But i believe the actual temperature for the Riden processor is in the Menu shit + 0 exclamation mark
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. The displayed temperature if from the external probe which I have connected to the hottest part of the system. The RD6006 board sensor and fan control are indenepdant of that. The case fan is controlled by a third probe which I also have attached to the hottest point. In the video I mention that the external probe can be used as a battery temp monitor for battery charging if required.

I ordered this load from ebay, it was broken. Sometimes she displayed the voltage correctly and usually the display only went up by 9 volts at the input. The dealer wanted to send a new one, but he didn't. I got my money back through PayPal.

Could you do a review which compares different electronic loads - i have been looking for a load for a while and if you have some expereince in this area, it would be good to hear what to look and what is your preference and why - otherwise good videos

The temperature drift is so high that one decimal place would have been enough.

So far it seems like a very good buy. I still have a lot of testing to do. The error in the power reading is because the load is not very accurate in current measurement. I have found a hidden menu but have not yet found one for the calibration. It may be an RS232 only function. However the error is still OK for what I intend to use it for and as I can buy 5 of these for one 300W BK precision unit I am happy to use these for general everyday testing.

Just wondering, if that Kunkin KP184 electronic load carries a "CE-certification" for importing to the EU ??? I would like to order one, but I don't know, if it will get through customs because of this...

Haha, yes and the warranty stickers are also normally the first thing to catch fire. Note that I did not 'remove' the warranty sticker I just cut it so my warranty should be as good as the paper it is written on :)

Wonder how it compares to the other cheap one the Et5410
@john_in_phoenix
@john_in_phoenix 3 жыл бұрын
I have found the ET5410 to be easier to operate in many aspects, but overall both the KP184 and the ET5410 are quite comparable. Both are high quality enough for the price, both have the same problem with the transformer in the bottom. The ET5410 has a better display, and some functions are easier to use. The ET5410 does not have remote sense leads.

looks like it has 9 pin serial. That would be worth a look to see how it can be controlled, etc.
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
Yes it has RS232 and there is some basic software to control it and also a command set so it can be controlled via a terminal. The only issue I have found with it so far is that the current measurement is off which is wht the power reading is also wrong. I have found a hidden menu but I cannot find a way to calibrate it so it may be fun finding out (it may just be a serial only function).

Hi Jerry. Loving your very informative videos. I note that the RD6006 power supplies come with a smaller case option but I'm not certain what power supply to use with it. For my lab I'd like the smaller case to fit my desk so wondering if you know of or could recommend a power supply that would fit and has the same spec (or close to it as the longer version?). Alternatively do you know of a good supply thats relatively small as an alternative option? I am just starting in the world of electronics and loving it but it gets a little overwhelming with all the power supplies and other tools out there! :)
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
In theory you can use any power supply that will fit into the case but I would hesitate to recommend any particular supply as I have not tested any of the smaller form factor supplies. But as an example there are supplies such as this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/500W-Dual-voltage-LLC-Switching-power-supply-board-for-power-amp-PSU-DIY/113322035303?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item1a62850867:m:mVwfBVthXha05Fa3B9RFMUQ&enc=AQAEAAACQBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qUrec19JXainX3jrzfGgV7MXeOa7RiY4mMUFKrr3DsAxsN1v5XelH07bJbTIJxhnJIfafkM5rIuuFy%2FL9TeE37%2FtyAblR2OeVCRhyPx5i42H%2FcKYf0mcwC6UXFRwD%2Fd0OTpH91T2j3jajNn%2B%2FjQyeNy4WUM1BdoEiALhWmN6XjdZyvlzsKCoh36fsld7ZGmwHGTZwZzaYBMFqLByg1yLfMTdxQlmRdvDJI%2FOQqySaM%2F5whLb9KnESTW3X7hQm4PkMO2eDDSi1ZUofd%2BAFt%2By2fi71UehsVZzq8E0CwfZA6bGajmWXtQ9PGMaii6SzKjgErADh9d95rP5wVL3KOe8vJSD3Pb1QJm7KmTRey9u4pHiw4OOCT0bW7Vp%2BErmA0X7fpUisupBmp5A8mg4sbSilhKap3Etx3N6GlP85E%2FlIV9XCeQBBFZeFVF6IA3XqAxMtdAXZQF7BtLyzPE8FadWlIJ38ZXuDP43g5aT7qTMUxjbtQrQl00OYe5Gd4Vlq4s1MPOryyvvcl9lULY%2FzmVxQLhycCU2JLuaxShqevsHNGhcoJBnKnO8vG0UwErlE7Hhou8b174OyEbxoUx9J4X1TGIdVvz2%2BzRXRNqA2lxxam5li01BXgJSZUFq8kkSJCHqlqCkwNCw579RHYG5hPzPhClroXMFNw3J1Hd4AUFuDIZ7WOR1YpyLLsct7jRuXaYaB9qiWyS%2B88XZOgFH1uHT9zUuMm%2FyIP663NcwgQir3hpCQ%3D%3D&checksum=113322035303a9d2c785e3864a86bed37800aaba5e91 which will fit but as ever you buy chinease supplies at your own risk. Some may work and others may catch fire but this small form factor seems to be what the smaller case is aimed at. If you have noticed on my videos I have several supply controllers attached to my bench and these are all fed from a common distribution supply box with a number of independent DC supplies and this can also be a goo approach with the RD6006 but of course it depends on what you need. I would of course highly recommend very through testing of any supply you use before attaching anything of importance to it.
@falcidi
@falcidi 4 жыл бұрын
@@JerryWalker001 Thank you so much. That has been my concern with the cheaper power supplies from China. I may look at the option of feeding it from a common distribution supply box like you have done with independent DC supplies. At least then I can hook up a couple more in future. I'm only doing basic electronic work, repairs for things like PC boards, TV's and radio equipment as I am a ham operator. Eventually I want to expand my knowledge and build equipment using various Arduino and Raspberry Pi boards as well as custom boards once I know what I am doing. I have some basic electronic knowledge but want to expand that much much further :)
@JerryWalker001
@JerryWalker001 4 жыл бұрын
I feed mine from spearate isolated supplies so I can hook them up anyway I want. For example I can connect them as +5 / +12 and -12V all at the same time and this is very useful for general testing and development. You could of course use something like the Rigol that I have if you wanted to spend 10 times as much. You may have noticed that I often try out cheap chinease equipment and the reason for this is to try to show that there is no need to spend lots of money to get up and running even though I have a very well equiped workshop and even better equiped lab. You can always buy more expensive equipment later if you think you need it. As you develop more things you get a better idea where best to spend the money.
