Kurai Ondrum Illai - S.Aishwarya & S.Saundarya

On the occasion of my birthday, (October 27th) my sister S Saundarya and I are pleased to present to the Rasikas , the most popular rendering of my Great Grandmother Bharat Ratna M.S Subbulakshmi and my Grandmother Dr Radha Viswanathan, "Kurai Onrum Illai".
This composition of the late C Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) set to tune by Kadayanallur Sri S Venkataraman in the Ragas Sivaranjani, Kapi and Sindhu Bhairavi went on to enrapture the hearts and minds of music lovers all over the world.
This rendering by my sister and is exactly the same way as taught by my Grandmother Radha Patti and I dedicate the song to her memory.

In that situation ("enrum irundida") what ("Edu") deficiency ("kurai") can I ("ennakku") have? I do not have any complaint ("kurai onrum illai"), kannA, maNivaNNa, malaiyappA, gOvindA!

This song made me weep. It was one year before. I was walking on street, it was an evening by 7:30. I heard this song, it was a female.voice, when I went near to the voice, I saw a destitute women in tears on her eyes singing this song. I am uncontrollable, tears are coming from eyes. Once she finished the song, I asked did she need any help. But despite of her pennury position, she said she needs nothing, and blessed me and my family to live happily. I slowely moved away from the place with heavy heart. The next day after when I went to same to see that kind women, I was told by surrounding shopkeepers, she died a day before. It was in the Mint area. Madras. Whenever I hear this song, the kind grand mother memories come before my eyes and I weep.

This song has a beautiful meaning. First time i listened this song in 2007. version of MS Amma. so many sang so far but none reached to her devotion and purity in her voice. here they rendered as similar as her. they maintained the same spirit and purity in the song. Thank you to both. It has very deep meaning. the destitute women you saw so fortunate enough. coz in the last minutes of life, everyone agitate and cry what they did not have in their life and curse the god.. but she sang this song and conveyed that she don't have any complaints and regrets though she is in painful condition. such a great enlightenment. she definitely now at the feet of Malayappa.
