Nice work on the tree Jerome, a good idea to take it slow with the roots, it should do really well this year with the new soil!!!

What a find!! It looks as if it were grafted but you can barely tell unless you know what you're looking at. It definitely is an "instant" bonsai. The only thing is... the nebari. Idk if you should air layer the bottom or root graft it but I'm glad you have the nebari in mind. If this tree ends up with a great root spread, it will be an excellent bonsai. Good work Jerome.

I remember when you got this Jerome. I got a similar koto hime.same time from my local nursery. Stil snow on the ground here. But looking forward to get all that clay off.

Beautiful tree! Can’t wait to see it leafed out. Could you attach the guy wires to the wires holding the tree in the pot? If so it would eliminate the wire on the exterior of the pot.
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I could do that but that’s too much work. The guy wires will come off next spring so it’s temporary.

Nice!! What can you do to a tree when it won’t leaf out but is still green when you scratch it?

Epic looking tree. We don't have any nurseries close, so most of my trees I get online and delivered to me, most was pre bonsai material, learning every day, the YT bonsai community is great!

What a super score y’all! Yeah, that’s every bonsai artist’s dream, low key jealous. This video reminds me one of my maples (water fall) nice green fern leaf foliage , it’s ready for a repot. Awesome guys, thanks 🙏

Hi Jerome, great video as usually. IMHO it is called "guy wire"
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right, it is called guy wire. However, my Swiss brain doesn’t understand why it isn’t called guide wire because you are guiding the wire 😅
@1hayes1 Жыл бұрын
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Merriam-Webster dictionary defines guy as: a rope, chain, rod, or wire attached to something as a brace or guide. I think it might be a nautical term.

Those two roots that are on the side opposite that large root (@7:11 in the video you can see them clearly), is there a reason why you didn't try to get them to flare away from each other more dramatically? The one on the right of the screen, closer to the large root, might have looked better pushed farther away from that other root in terms of later presentation.
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, I don’t really mess with the roots too much at a first repotting. I just want it to get as healthy as possible and get used to the new soil. At the next repotting in 2 years I will sort out the roots and really arrange them nicely.

Hi Jerome, I’m live outside Toronto so is it a good time to repot and use your bonsai soil and should I leave them in my garage to protect them after the repotting. It still gets under 0 Celsius at night!

Hi Peter, wait for the tree to wake up, then repot and keep it above freezing and out of wind

Look better, it's grafted. But it's a nice graft, it's almost invisible
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Жыл бұрын
@@patrickbotros4189 it actually isn’t grafted. What you see that looks like a graft is just the tree aging. The trunk has already turned and now the upper part is slowest turning too.
@Benw3790 Жыл бұрын
@@patrickbotros4189 it's definitely grafted. You can tell. But I agree, it's very well done! After a few more years, you won't be able to tell at all.

Jerome I felt like you did this video just for me! I asked the same exact questions and you were good enough to answer me directly. So if night temps are just lower than 40 and my tree is in an unheated garage would you do the bonsai shuffle if you wanted to? Or not worth it! Also can we see your Arakawa at some point? Maybe as an update video? 😜
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply Жыл бұрын
Maybe we did this video just for you John 😉I don't really bother with the bonsai shuffle unless it is above 40 for a few days consecutively.
