If you think about it, this anime is really sad too Explanation: you have 6 teenagers who happened to meet each other at a basketball club. This was something fun, that they enjoyed. It started with Aomine, who loved the sport more than anyone else. He poured his soul into this game. But as he got better, he slowly resented the game as he realized it couldn’t reciprocate the passion he puts in. Then the others follow: murasakibara, midorima, and Akashi who encouraged them to abandon team play. Basketball was no longer fun. To the miracles, it resembled more of a 9-5 job that they don’t want to show up to. Something that they only do because they’re good at it, not because they like it. Meanwhile you have kuroko, the least talented of them all, who loved basketball when he was bad, and still loved it when he was good. But the others don’t see it the way he does, and because of the miracles’ new selfish play style, it ends up affecting not only his enjoyment of the game, but his relationship to the members. They breathed basketball. That’s how they lived, how they spoke, how they communicated. With their common ground severed, they might as well be strangers.

@Mai Françhé It goes beyond that, you have a team of 5 freaks that are too talented for their own good, and as they grow together they start to resent one another as they grow drunk on power. Some members take this falling out more seriously than others, but they all keep playing basketball and being too talented for their own good: nobody can put them in their place, as you said. Then you have Kuroko, who is singing this song and talking about "not looking back," because it clearly upsets him greatly that his junior high friends are on such hostile terms now because of the one thing they all love and have in common - basketball. That's how it's really sad. Kuroko sucks enough at basketball to be more humble and realize the errors his friends are making, but ironically because he doesn't have that level of talent he can't play on their level and communicate his feelings to them through basketball. At the end of the series, with the help of Kagami and his teammates, he finally succeeds in defeating them though, which is how he is able to ultimately reach them. You have to be in the shadows to observe the light and see how it is making a mistake, but you need your own light to defeat the another one.

It's so cute that everyone's surname has the color of their hair. Kise. Ki = yellow Aomine. Ao = blue Midorima. Midori = green (just like Midoriya in My Hero Academia lmao) Murasakibara. Murasaki = purple Akashi. Aka = Red. Momoi. Momo = Peach, and pink. Kuroko is the only one that differs as Kuro = black, since he's a shadow.

What’s also interesting with Kise is that kiseki means miracle in Japanese, and Kise is often considered a miracle because he learnt basket really quick and can copy cat... in the episode Kaijo VS seirin, Kise hurt his feet and I remembered him talking about a miracle cause he got back on .. his feets

1 month late to your comment. I just finished rewatching KnB after dropping halfway through ss3 (around 2015/16) cause I had an entrance exam for uni. It's not like I forgot all the things that happened but this anime still hit me hard, even after 6 years, I still cry watching their middle school arc and after all the games lol. And I got to see the sequel ep of Kuroko's birthday (that hadn't released yet at that time) that brought me so much joy (and tears). Maybe I have to wait for another 6yrs to rewatch them again, this anime is just so epic and emotional.

Kuroko chose to change the Miracles' way of basketball because he knew they weren't happy as they were before their talents unveiled. He chose to defeat them for his childhood friend, the Miracles' own sake, and for his new team at Seirin. He always thinks of others and that defines his type of basketball and makes him one of my favorite protagonists. The OVA where they all celebrated his birthday was the happy ending we all needed and worked three seasons to get to. This series will always be in my heart.
