Jitte (十手) kata effective bunkai 5 - Nagashi uke, Teisho uchi

This video is from the series about Shotokan Kata in which we are going to demonstrate Jitte (十手) kata Oyo bunkai. Demonstrates by Alexandr Matiushevskij (7 Dan). In these techniques, as well as in others, there is a clear connection with Jion. The techniques of both Kata are complementary. The connection with Tekki is also obvious. Tekki and Hangetsu also have a close connection with the group - Jion, Jitte, Jiin.

These are nice moves fast and effective. I am not sure there are the original intent. Try doing Jion and Jitte with a bow. You find that the kata moves will make more sense. As “temple” forms many were done with a wooden staff. If all moves in kata are translated to blocking and countering you ask to ask yourself why so many variations. Are that many variations of blocking and countering needed to defend oneself. Many which are very similar. Try to study hung gar and other Chinese martial arts including their versions of long fighting or nothern style. Short fighting or southern style throwing arts and locks and releases and staff. You may then find and see where some of these moves originated. Just some thoughts. Fifty years in Shotokan. Ska. Goju. Peace
