I love Aikido its the only martial art that works only when your opponent agrees to be thrown. LOL in other words AIKIDO SUCKS
When I was a gymnast, we shared space with a jujitsu class. I learned this skill. My best friend at the time was Black belt student in Aikido. I used to get thrown around allot, and I was good at it. 20 years later, I was in a nasty motorcycle accident. Training kicked in and I tucked my head, and rolled, like an 80 mph barrel. Required, 3 stitches in my knuckle from where the first slap landed(hands were gloved). I firmly believe that spacial awareness and this type of training, compounded with my gymnastics skills, even from so long ago, saved my life that night on the highway.

I like the interviewer very much. He poses very good questions and is very cordial in the manner he does so. Very interesting is how Shirakawa san points out that these large movements can be applied in a very small way, where the aggressor is not thrown away for his own safety. Also, thank you Shirakawa san, and students, for showing everyone your amazing skill. Your fall-break technique (ukemi waza) really is very, very good.
Nice Ukemi…when I first began Aikido in 1980…our Sensei made us do Mae Ukemi on the floor of the basketball court…and sometimes on the concrete sidewalk in front of the dojo. It was really tough! He said it would “knock the corners off”! He was a student of Chiba Shihan! That training saved me once when I was in a bike accident and flew threw the air and rolled and avoided injury. As usual a great channel with excellent Aikido.

Yup aikido safe my life twice, both time i was ridding on my lane and car came from across and once from side, both time i flew out and did a ukemi on tarmac subconsciously, with no broken bones , no damage to my helmet, just tear if jacket, and some minor bruises, not even scratches, and both times my bike are total beyond repairs. Aikido has been a passion for me since.
Without a doubt, Shirakawa Ryuji sensei is the best master. I have been practicing Aikido for many years and have seen teachers all over the world. Ukemi from Shirakawa sensei is incredibly soft, sharp and accurate. No one can do this kind of Ukemi. Also, many famous Aikido leaders are not good at Ukemi. Unfortunately, ordinary Aikido leaders are lazy. Shirakawa sensei is a brand new superstar in Aikido. And his students are also good at Ukemi. That's amazing.

I don't think someone who isn't good at ukemi is worthy of title "master" in Aikido, no matter how long they've been practice Aikido _(or the belt)_ Ukemi is the basic of basic, the foundation must be strong to build high building. Many claimed to have learned Aikido for years, black belt, etc but can't perform ukemi naturally. Shirakawa is definitely a master. Not only perfect ukemi, he also perform other techniques very well.
@Will_Fong Жыл бұрын
yes unfortunately alot aikido student neglect uke training in taking ukemi , most focus too much on tori part , on the throwing part but not how to receive and flow with tori, i been refusing to take my shodan over 5 years till today is because i felt my ukemi is not even close to what they are doing in the video, failing to achieve anything remotely close to this, i refuse to take black belt, its pointless. 10yrs of training im still struggling to learn proper ukemi like this, i wish i have instructor like him with basic training focus on high level ukemi.

Not so sure about the 100 % 😉 Aikido was at some point at risk of being taken of the list self defense sports because they refuse the competition element. However they apparently won the argument as the sport retained that qualification and has a solid footing in the top ten. Similar to Tai Chi, Aikido appears very ‘soft’ as a style, especially the demonstrations look a little over the top. Because we lack the MMA competition “real” fight comparison to other disciplines it’s difficult to imagine that Aikido has “hard” techniques as well to neutralize an opponent. You rarely see them demonstrated (besides Seagal movies) but I guarantee you the hard style is no joke. There must be vids on YT 🤔 🙂👍🏻

Finally comes Aikido. However, this content is very similar with what Shirakawa sensei has already shown on his own chanel for a long time. I want to see something different. I would love to see Naka sensei or other Karate sensei tries Aikido techniques, like what they did in Shorinji Kempo series. It is also interesting to compare Aikido's weapons techniques with Karate's. Or Aikido wirstlock with Shorinji kempo wristlock. Looking forward to more Aikido videos from you

I love watching your channel! As an Aikido student I have to say that is soft and beautiful ukemi. If your audience wants to see Morhei Ueshiba's Aikido, with weapons, you should visit a teacher who can show "Iwama style" Aikido. It has internals similar to a Chinese internal art, and complete correspondence between weapons and taijutsu,
Each time I am see the way and skills work thank you it help me understand better
