I studied Taido here in the U.S. under Uchida Sensei back in the 80s. These Kuro-Obi videos featuring Nakano Sensei have inspired me to pick up the art again.

Nakano Sensei is not only and expert in his own art, but also one of the best teachers I have ever seen. He has so much in depth knowledge of all parts of human body and how they correspond to different types of training. I have never seen any (including my own) martial arts teacher explain everything in so much detail as he doesn.
This is indeed a wonderful connection they have made between Taido and its counterpart techniques in Ditang Quan.

I have a lot of respect for Nakano sensei especially because when he was asked 15:51 about why Shukumine sensei created Taido, he didn't have an answer and didn't want to speculate, or interject his own opinions he just stated (I'm paraphrasing) that he doesn't know. I thought it was beautiful how he contextualized his answer in the frame of a story that is being told by many teachers, some are alive and many have passed away. We really need to treasure our elders and glean whatever we can from them, so that we can continue to build upon the wisdom of prior generations.

Nakano might have been polite. Shukumine is rather straightforward in his book that he felt that other Gendai Budo organised their training in an un-rational manner that couldn't make them reach their stated goals, so he wanted to create a new martial art to fix that. However, that doesn't answer the question on the context of surprise attacks, the correct answer to which would be very complex and long-winded enough to make a video of its own.
5:31 it's literally capoeira! It's impressive how so much different and distant martial arts achieves similar results and answers.

Dit Tang Quan is a gongfu system from north China. Leg techniques are emphasized in those systems, with all types of kicks you can imagine, from simple kicks, to spinning kicks, jumping kicks and acrobatic kicks and elusive acrobatic movements. But they have many hand techiniques, too, for closer combat. Capoeira is very similar in the use of legs and acrobatics, except that it has a lesser number of techniques (it has a total of sixty techniques, most are leg techniques), and they also cover a wide variety of kicks.

If they developed around the same time maybe, but Di Tang Quan is like 1000 years old, Capoeira about 300 years and Taido just 70-ish years.
@timoteostation Жыл бұрын
@@j.d.4697 that makes the things even more interesting! Brazil and China are really distant from each other, and somehow the first capoeira masters discovered ways to use their legs that are similar to di tang quan.

Nakano Sensei is obviously one of the greatest martial artists and teathers. He's abilities to explain everything in detayls are amazing. Respect from United Kingdom Master Nakano !
What I adore about Taido is how it tries to adapt to urban lifestyle but with some culture and principles instead of pure effectiveness like Krav Maga for instance.

The biggest enemy to both styles is a nail on the ground 😂
Falling sweep kick, most effective way to floor your opponent. Pencak silat pspd signature technique, called "sapu", or broom. After some practice it can be executed without touching the floor with the hands. Also double half forward/half backwards sweepkicks can put an evasive opponent on his back on the second backsweep part of the combination. A winner in MMA fights. I've told Wonderboy Thompson, but he doesn't wanna know;)
