Are you sure your wife is not a mimic? Be careful where you detect good and evil. Course, that would take a lot of work on the part of the mimic colony. Most mimics are just trying to live and not really grand schemers, but I suppose one that was committed to the bit could slowly grow the colony and only keep children within the area if they agree to abide the plan.
