KURSK-OFFENSIVE: “Make it clear to the Russian people that they are also in the war!”
The planned cap on the German government's aid payments for Ukraine has been criticized by politicians from the SPD and CDU/CSU. Michael Roth (SPD), Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Bundestag, told the newspapers of the Funke Mediengruppe (Monday editions) that he saw a fatal signal from the Federal Government. The debate on the future financing of military aid seemed “like a disguised withdrawal of Germany from its responsibilities”.
CDU politician Roderich Kiesewetter told the “Tagesspiegel” (Monday edition) that no longer financing military support for Ukraine from the budget “means de facto that Ukraine is being left in the lurch”. He criticized the lack of will in the budget negotiations to prioritize support for Ukraine.
According to the AFP news agency, the current budget plans do not include any additional funds beyond the billions already pledged. The German government's plans envisage that support for Ukraine beyond the four billion euros earmarked for 2025 will then be financed from a new international pot with a volume of 50 billion euros - and no longer from the federal budget.
