Kurt Cobain "Kurt Was Here" artwork coffee table art book unboxing and preview video

Thinking about getting the new Kurt Cobain artwork book? I hope this book helps you decide if it's worth the cost.
Personally, to me, it's not. A book such as JOURNALS contained much more for a less hefty price!
Many of these "Kurt feels..." drawings were supposedly done while Kurt was in drug rehab under psychiatric care according to Charles Cross. Is it in bad taste to release "artwork" done during therapy sessions? Probably no worse than releasing his private diaries in 2002. So here we are now, entertain us.
Still, what is the point of showing the original artwork and then showing a cropped t-shirt edition of the same? Does that really need to be in a book of Cobain's artwork? Cobain did not do any of these pieces with the intent of putting them on a t-shirt. Why not scrap the t-shirt from the book and include, i don't know, MORE ARTWORK? A book about Cobain's artwork that doesn't even include a single page dedicated to the Incesticide cover painting? A major omission, but this is an art project($$$$$) after all.
Alas, I am a shameless glutton for anything Cobain, so of course I bought this anyway.

I'm glad I saw this video. If I ordered this book, I'd be expecting a comprehensive collection of Cobain's artwork, but there are a lot of paintings, drawings, collages and scultptures that aren't in this book. They could have taken up the space filled by the t-shirts, but then I guess they couldn't release volumes two and three at some point. "Milk It" is the Cobain estate's favourite Nirvana song, after all.

@Kurt Cobain Ministries It's been ages since I looked at it, so I'm not 100% certain, but I think some of these paintings can be found in the Montage of Heck companion book. A few of the drawings are also in the Cobain journals, and some of the paintings were on the internet years before this book was released. I used to have a folder on my old phone that had all publicly known Cobain artwork. I would love to have a nice hardbound collection of all of his art. It wouldn't be hard for the Cobain estate to produce, but instead they release a book that barely contains any of his art, let alone anything new, and the t-shirt pages are simply filler. EDIT - I also find it weird that instead of showcasing the many paintings that are missing from this book, they showcase loose doodles and word salads. The drawing of the foot coming down on the needle is from a psychological evaluation Cobain took at a rehab facility, it wasn't an attempt at art. Also, the t-shirt pages (they're really bugging me, lol; it's more like a catalogue than an art book) could have been used instead to explain when and where the paintings were made, and what was going on in Kurt's life at that time. Maybe essays from actual art critics - but the same picture on differently shaded t-shirts? That screams rip-off to me.

@@purorockyaguita I am not so much interested in who benefits from all this. The most insulting thing is the exploitation, basically the commodification of every aspect of his life. Things took a dark turn when Charles R Cross became the biographer, then the journals being published, and now this.

It's very pleasant to touch such good paper. I can even sense it on the top of my fingers and feel the smell. Some of the pictures are ok for clothes but not many. Maybe this book is a must for people who are fans of visual art but not for everyone who likes Nirvana's music. I respect Kurt's art but this book is more like an attempt to make money on everything Kurt did even if it's a line made with his hand on a piece of paper.

I saw the tees from the website and yeah, they're all based on Kurt's drawings but I don't wanna wear that kind of tee because I feel like that waste of money and there's one tee I saw that you can do it with a pen and a shirt. and the book oh my lord why they're self-promoting themselves in their book? Like I bought this book and you want to buy your stuff? Fuck no I don't wanna buy your shit. Then again I want to say give props to joining Jeb foundation and splitting the shares to them but overall I don't want to buy it personally and yeah i know some of these are cool but it just drawings put in a shirt and jacket and nothing else.

Whats up with that bs minimalist empty page shit and the 'tshirt' designs that could've been represented as independent close-up concept art without being imposed onto a stockimage-esque tshirt model. Its not like there wasnt enough of Kurts art to fill every one of those damn title pages. My god he would've hated how this has been presented. Cool idea but horrifically executed. To any fans looking for a good journal-style Kurt Cobain book, just look for the red cover book that compiles hundreds of pages of multiple of his journals. Theres less art, but still a lot scattered around, it really is a good casual read.
