FRAMED SATELLITE - EVENTS OF LIVE MUSIC & ART
Kurt Rosenwinkel has been a distinct and prominent creative voice at the forefront of modern music for nearly three decades. The American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer has gained
international recognition for his deft artistry and unabated individualism since he first appeared on the New York music scene in 1991. His legacy as the pre-eminent jazz guitar voice of his generation is plainly evident on his eleven albums as a leader.

I never really "got" Kurt Rosenwinkel til I listened in this setting. The other material I've heard is so far out for my poor ear that it just never clicked, like he was part of a magic jazz circle of knowledge that I wasn't privy to. Somehow in this solo guitar environment where he's a little more grounded to the melody and stuck on his own to communicate, so to speak, it feels a lot more consumable for me. Not that I'm just sitting here analysing it, but rather than getting stuck in figuring out what he's doing I finally feel like yeah, this is beautiful. It's like his playing is finally reaching me.

There are so many unbelievable clips of him that I keep returning to : One is on here entitled 0.03.09 and it is so brining it’s insane . There’s another one ( I believe entitled ) “untitled improvisation “ it’s him alone in what might be a radio station , a gray background , headphones and or a mic on a stand , sitting in a chair , maybe a desk - improvising what feels like an amazing Brazilian song he’s inventing on the spot. I also have returned to and listened to one entitled “ Kurt rosenwinkel masterclass “ which just has the same image of him the whole time and it’s at a workshop - just audio . He plays w a band and alone and answers questions . He plays a godin nylon string . Over an hour

Yamaha is an amazing company, kudos for Kurt to use a "mid level" instrument (price wise) because he digs it, it sits right balance wise, and upper fret access is tops. I hope D' Aquisto isn't too mad, just enjoy his joy.

@today is not yesterday I assume you're talking about the Yamaha he's using (he plays a PRS later in the gig, I think...)? I hear ya, man. I can see that. I really dig it, though. I'm not sure, but I think he may be using a pedal that affects the sound of the guitar's attack, also. And possibly that's what you're not digging? Dunno...

@@benhs87 It’s actually a very complex signal chain from the Fractal Axe-Fx III that includes a series of compressors, filter, gates, amp/cab simulation, delay, reverb, the EHX POG-2 and equalization. He’s talked about it in a masterclass, which you can find some comments about in the Fractal forum in a thread named ‘Official welcome to Kurt Rosenwinkel!’.
