12 people in attendance? Horrible. I would imagine things are improving for them as time goes by. Maybe the weed is getting better too.

Everything that's wrong with Jazz in the 21st Century is in this clip - the saxophonist that enjoys playing scales (up and down, up and down) and is unable to let the solo breathe, the drummer that's just doing his own thing; he neither supports or listens and the painfully awkward bass 'solo'. In spite of coming for the guitarist I can't comment because he left no impression on me. "But he's Kurt Rosenwinkel!" - Yeah and you've been sold a doozy. This is why no one is interested in Jazz - They play for themselves and say nothing for or to their audience

What's funny is that Turner is heavily influenced by Tristano´s school of improv and the people who he taught. People said the same thing when bebop was the new shit. That it is not music etc etc. And look how it has spread. To each his own I guess.

low resolutiom video ! but when i hear the music i realize taht the jazz musicians like to play tunes with a lot o chronatisms and do them very fast .Annoys me a little this display of fast fingering and the lack of long notes from time to time that wil make it more interesting .They dont leave space .I ll always be a rock guitarist i suppose and maybe a average sax player .Bending strings is a no no for jazzers ! I don´t really want to play like that . .anyway respect for this musicians who have reached this high level of proficiency

Depends entirely on the tune and setting...and individual players.

Seems a bit unfair, If you'd check out each of these cats, they have no problem with e.g. long notes and spaces. The tune's written to "Lennie" Tristano's style, the complicated, busy lines are most of the point. It's got nothing to do with them not knowing how to leave space, nor to do with the old "because they can"-critique. It's because they have the skills, by ear and instrument, to play what the music calls for. They wouldn't play as busy if the tune required otherwise. You not wanting to play like that is fair enough. If you're can't play music requiring that style, though, that's your lack of chops.

My bet is that these cats are as much home playing Bebop and other forms as they are playing the loose stretched out model forms . ..one has to "grow" ears to fully appreciate this style...they're not just playing anything ...there's reason behind what they're playing....like in tennis there has to boundary's to be tennis...same thing in jazz.
