Every building has a foundation. To some this may seem corny, but it is part of the hip hop foundation. Many M.C.`s were inspired by this dude and we keep building. Without a start, there is no middle etc. This is the beginning;appreciate that.
@DannyTruthMagnified10 жыл бұрын
Too many "so called" hip hop fans don't appreciate it roots, or even have any knowledge of them. Can't really blame them, though. Mainstream media does not honor old school hip hop artists like they do other forms of classic music. Every now and then Run DMC will get a nod, but they act like no other artists existed back then or before then. You literally have to put in the work to dig for yourself to learn about the roots of hip hop.
@harryarmstrong6589 жыл бұрын
This was hip-hop on records, on streets and in clubs it sounded like how it did with Run DMC around this time too, but because the time when hip-hop was first being put on records was the '70s and early '80s then the street sound would be too dark compared to all the happy pop/funk at the time.
@harryarmstrong6589 жыл бұрын
Though I do love Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Cold Crush Brothers, Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force/Zulu Nation etc. The TRUE pioneers (though the pioneers of DJing) were Kool Herc, Flash again, Grand Wiz Theodore, Grandmaster Flowers, Afrika Bambaataa (again), Grandmaster Caz, Davey D and so much more.

This song is actually more popular now than it was when it came out. I’m totally serious. I hear it more often in the last year than the actual year it came out. As for the budget for shooting the video I’d imagine they ran out of $$ funds & some guy said hey I know the guy who owns the warehouse where Chaka Kahn’s ‘I feel for you’ video was shot. He is cool he’ll let us film there for free. Oh I should add that Basketball is my favorite sport.
@TheGameChanger3 ай бұрын
of course it wasn't as popular smh.. it was a 40 years ago.. records and cassette tapes was the main form of buying albums or singles, from an actual brick and mortar store.. not the number of media, social or otherwise, to watch the video or talk about it, share in light speed.. not sure satellite radio was as popular either in 1984 when this came out. it was big then.. smh maybe not your community. video wasn't a budget issue either.. that was the style and the tech and the idea of cheerleaders etc smh

Honest is the key to my peaceful existence. I was so pissed at this video when it aired on Video Soul(BET needs new leadership). It was hard to view rap artists videos back then. When a rap artist got tv play, it was a big deal. All these white women and one woman that maybe biracial, I was pissed. I got over it a month later because one of my homegirls said “maybe he didn’t have that kinda control?” Vivid memories. I love Kurtis Blow to this very day still .

its 1985, they probably filmed the cheerleaders without this song playing.
