This is extremely helpful. After 25 years I've decided it's time to actually learn how this thing works. You make it sound really nice. Thank you for the tutorial.

Tip: If you don´t want resonance to distort, use the "pad" parameter on the FRQ page.

I wish there were more vids on the k2500s like this, specifically the sampling and sound design capabilities...

I just got the K2700. I have more than three decades of HW/SW synth programing experience, but VAST is like an alien language to me! And there's not a lot of videos out there explaining it. Your video is greatly appreciated. Please make more of these!

YES. I just ordered the k2700 as well and can't find ANY good tutorials on how it works! I had to use bing as an alternative search engine to find this video haha

This is the best introduction to VAST I have ever seen. Now I understand the basic principles of VAST: it's very similar to a classical subtractive synth, but instead of a fixed unique synth architecture, the user can choose the architecture of the synth (to a certain extent). And the UI has something in common with FM: with that small screen and the unfathomable menus it does not show the global picture of a patch clearly so the user must have it in his head in order to program it. Many thanks.

You build synths inside of it. Subtractive is just one of the many Synthesis architectures it can do. It also has a Multi-Sample Keymap Section and that can be used on its own or be further processed by V.A.S.T. DSP blocks and controlled in real-time.

Finally, a good explanation. Waiting for the next video ... 🙂

I bought a new K2000 when I was 21 and really didn't know much about synthesis at the time except some very, very basics. I generally just used it for presets and sampling. It was too much synth for me then. Nearly 30 years later, I might go find it in storage and start noodling around with it again. Hopefully it'll boot. :)

Please come back if you get it to work! It's definitely worth it if you're a music man 😎 also you might want to consider joining the Mastering VAST community, it's the best!

Was just thinking the other day that I wished I had learned about VAST when I owned the k2000 and voila a new video on it 👍

Thank you! Awesome lesson! It became clear about SAW+.))) Do more lessons. I want to understand about FUN. On simple practical examples it is clearer than just reading the manual. I don't have Kurz yet, but I plan to.

The way VAST uses pitch bend transmit over midi is utterly bizzare. Just saying...
