In the subject of "The Potter," the Bible identifies clay as representing humans and, more specifically, as symbolizing Israel. It also extends this metaphor to include Gentiles as clay. For example, in Isaiah 29:16 we read, "Can the pot say to the potter, 'You know nothing'?" This is a metaphor where God is essentially asking if we, as humans, have the right to question His knowledge and wisdom. Similarly, Isaiah 45:9 states, "Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'The potter has no hands'?" This verse further emphasizes the absurdity of the creation questioning the Creator. Likewise, in Romans 9:20-21, the Apostle Paul writes, "But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? 'Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'" Just as a pot cannot question the potter, so too we, as humans, cannot question God's purposes or decisions. I hope this clarifies the analogy for you now.
